Mods/AI + Mods/CHS Variants

Hi,
I've been playing WPO for a while and decided to try a WITP campaign on the side as well. I have 3 questions, which I realize have probably been repeated ad infinitum but a quick search couldn't turn up something answering these, though some threads here are close:
1. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the various mods available, in people's opinions? Best is presumably a matter of opinion, but what does each do well? Are some more complicated and require more micro-management for the sake of realism, while others abstract things for the sake of gameplay?
2. How does the AI cope with the various mods? Does it present a decent game if you don't do anything to exploit it, or does it get totally confused by a changed map?
3. The mod I downloaded and installed so far is CHS, since it has a mod switching program if I wanted to change to another one. It has 3 air to air combat models, and I was wondering what's wrong with the default air-to-air model and what are the perks of each of the alternatives.
Thanks,
Kadorak
