Everyone else with this problem, that solved it anyway, was short of memory for PacWar, which is using quite a bit more than WIR. Are you running from the Matrix created shortcut, that loads in the new Intro. If so, try running straight off the .exe file and that will help. Otherwise, you will need to free up some of the first 640k memory you have, which depends on your OS. There are already a number of posts on doing this, or post you OS and there will be specific ideas for you to try.

The problem is that, as an old DOS game, it only uses the first 640k of memory, as opposed to hard drive space, or even remaining RAM you may have. When the blue screen of death was first coming up on these updates qutie awhile ago, it was related to the machines DOS mode having under about 610k of the 640k available, leading to the crash (which was an odd way to have it crash). I am fairly positive freeing memory in that first 640k will solve your problem, but it is tough on anything but Win95/98. What are you running?

hi, there´s a simple solution for that problem. press F8 when your computer boots up. you´ll enter the win95/98/xx start-menu. there you should choose "single verification/conformation" (no.4) --> im from germany and i dont know how to translate that correctly :-). deny every line that follows EXCEPT the line with DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS. this should give you enough memory to run the game (it gave me 614 of 640k) but you´ll have to play without mouse.
have fun

I have WIN98/SE, and memoryproblems after installing PacWar the first time. In any forum, i found following config.sys. Just execute sysedit and replace your config.sys with the following:

DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE AUTO RAM MIN=0
STACKS=0,0
SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM /E:1024 /P

After that, the game should run fine.
