As A fighter pilot it irked me that I was the only pilot who could land a fighter on a CV.The others just slamed into the Archon and blew up.Now commanding the Archon it's really irratating to watch my fighter strength being destroyed by thier own stupidity.Is there something that I can do about this.It's day 10 of the Highland campaign And my F-32 squadron is completely wiped out.[:@][:@][:@]

Has anyone tried yet to replace the orion LOD model (lowest and mid-level) with a model that has the hangars fully developed? Right now the hangar bay on the lowest LOD model is a flat cube. I suppose that the ships crash into that LOD model... that would explain why it doesn't happen when you watch them closely.

Hold it.You mean I've got to watch my own stern in F3 to keep my fighters alive?

So it is said in other threads.

Dragonlead also found that using a slight positive pitch on the carrier with slow forward motion can also make a difference. It worked for me too...beats babysitting or playing Airboss

This crashing problem has been around for quite some time. While it has been mostly worked out, it does still happen. I have found that a 0.2 degree up angle and about 10-30 knots of forward speed tend to almost completely eliminate this. I don't know why it works for me, but it does. I make no claim it will be as effective for you, but you could give it a try.

Well I have replaced the Orion with The Galactica and made it big enough so the landing bays are decent. Haven't had AI collisions on it yet. Of course I made the landing co ordinates a bit higher than the deck.

Nice work Toshiro, very nice. Looking forward to your mod becoming available.

this is the work of Starbuck, a modder that created this for 4.5

I believe it's from the original series...

[:)] Hi this is Coxxon's Galactica. I found the ships from a Bridgecommander files. His stuff looks great.
So all the credit goes to him.
I have deffed it into Starshatter. Still a WIP.

Wow.. That new series galactica is excellent! If only there was more content in the show as far as fighter craft go. Would be awsome to replace all the alliance fighters with Galactica style strikecraft to match. Great work tho man.

You have to have your carrier either going extremely slow or not moving at all. Otherwise they're retarded and die.

The collision while docking can also be done if the fighter initiates docking with the high-res model, but you zoom out or otherwise convert the carrier to the low-res model (whose fighter bays are prisms with a solid face where the door would ordinarily be).

You know, I think it would be a quick fix for the Orion's model so that the low res version has a hollow landing deck even at the lowest LOD. It's only three more polygons per landing deck...

<edit>

I've been looking into this and for the life of me I can't get Magic 1.5 to import anything, nor can I get it to successfully export anything into 3DS. I did manage to get it to export an OBJ, which I promptly hacked to remove the rear polygons on the landing decks of the Orion0z.mag model, but I can't import it back into Magic, and thus I can't do anything about it.

Anyone have any clues?

<edit 2>

Aha, I was actually using Magic 2.0. Lemme try it with Magic 1.5. =)

Did your tests with magic 1.5 turn out ok? Any news on the subject? I guess you'd make many people happy if you could verify my (our?) theory make a kind of patch ;)

I tried it out, but I'm admittedly a little less than skilled with regards to how Starshatter loads data. I know that when I put the modified file into the ./Ships/Alliance_Ships/ relative folder under the StarshatterTGS directory on my hard disc, it didn't do anything. I'm trying a .dat file now.

I've been writing exams for the past couple of days, so I haven't been on the PC much, except for routine forum trol-- communication. *looks around innocently*

<edit>StarMod crashes and burns every time I try to build a mod from my directory. Can't do anything there. Any other utilities?</edit>

Did you remember to add the -filesys paramter to the starshatter link? If you don't add it the game will not look for extracted files.

Indeed I didn't! Didn't know that. I'm a stone cold newbie to modding SSTGS, if it isn't apparent already.

Lemme give that a whirl.

(Wow, the edit time is way off. I edited that only a few seconds after posting. As a completely tangential rant, why don't most forum systems allow cosmetic edits with no "last edited" marker?)
