Any advice on how to use these fellows would be appreciated.

I've tried to use them to ambush Brit/Hessian/Tory units and have come to the realization that they simply do not have the firepower to withstand any Brits or Hessians or even the Tory units. Combining them with a larger stack seems a waste.

Don't try to face British regulars in open ground.

They are at their best when ambushing in difficult terrain.

For example, in wilderness regions only 2regular units can be engaged at the same time in a fight, while irregulars might be much more numerous and will enjoy massive attack and retreat bonus thanks to the ambush.

Otherwise, rangers and co enjoy nice hiding values, thus in passive stance, you'll be able to bypass ennemy regulars and burn undefended forts and cities.
