First impressions?

Just curious what everyone's first impressions of the game are?

Right off the bat one thing I noticed was the graphics... Obviously this is a war game, but the game looks a bit "Washed out". The unit icons seem to be drawn at a very low resolution. Only scenario I am currently playing is Gazala, the terrain looks good, just the units/unit icons can use a bit of work.

I do like the HQ units, and they add another strategic element to the game.

Also, the game could use some popups when you hold your mouse over a button. Obviously you can right click, but a popup would be nice.

The maneuver possibilites are enormous on Gazala. I do like the new unit roster/interdiction button. Makes it easier to see the units of different types.

Anyone know how to goto next unit in formation? Also, is divisional integrity still in Battlefront? Not seeing a listing when a unit is highlighted as to how many units are in the regiment.

Just my $.02.

Rather than divisional integrity, you have regimental integrity. You can see the number of units by looking at the OOB (each line will show the units making up a regiment for integrity purposes). Also look at the top right of this screenshot:

Image

You see four small tank symbols with green bars & stars above them.... for the panzer unit selected in the picture, you can see:

1. It is the regimental integrity center (has green star above it)... all the other units get the bonus individually (not an all or none proposition) for being within radius of this unit....

2. The two small green bars between the stars and the tank symbol let you know that two units from this regimental intgrity group are in the same hex.

3. Since there are gold stars above the other units, they all are within range and receiving the bonus.

Aha! Thanks. I was so eager to play I skipped the manual. And by selecting one of those symbols, it automatically selects that unit. Actually much easier than KP/BII/BIN. Very nice.

I think there is only four campaigns in the game. Is that correct?

Correct, four full campaigns (more than in previous SSG releases) but also a full scenario and map editor which we fully expect will lead to some quality community-designed campaigns, such as were released for Battles In Italy.

How long is one campaign supposed to take? How many turns? Is it one map (though large) per campaign?

hi,

i skipped the manual and dove straight in. russian front 19 turns.  you could probably do it in about 5-7 hours or so i would think-not sure the length of the other campaigns.  the game is well worththe moneyin terms of replay and overall polish -everthing i could want in a boardgame but handled by a computer.

seriously, it is damn good.

Excellent thus far.

The AI seems great (as usual from an SSG product). I'm three turns into MG, and it's getting tough up north.

SSG's AI is scary as ever... Not that I'm a very good player, but still...

ok, I took the plunge, the waters where somewhat icy as the Brits soundly kicked me in MG.. Not 100% on how the oma work, but a cool conceipt.. Interesting. I still do not get why poeple cannot see the modding potential outside the scale of this game... seems one could easily adapt to a div level game in the editor and simply not get the direct fire.. the advantages of this over previous release are the nice HQ supply features and a much improved imo interface
