Crazy carrier pilots!

One annoyance that makes me want to shoot my own troops is their blatant disregard for orders. Please fix this if possible or make sure the "new game" doesn't do this!
I order carriers to attack a port full of fat merchants. Instead, the A/C fly hundreds of miles in the opposite direction to attack an airfield that isn't even a threat. What gives?
I understand that the port target might be overcast, but every day for a week? Also, wouldn't the planes move to a secondary target in the vicinity?
But my guys often disregard the "go here, attack boats" or they decide to "Let's go bomb some dirt and leave those enemy TF's alone."
Can someone come up with any real instance of squadrons of A/C totally ignoring their flight plans and flying hundreds of miles in the wrong direction? This is not realistic. At best, the strike would go in, not find anything and come back but they wouldn't go sailing/flying/walking hundreds of miles in the wrong direction without orders to do so.
The same thing happens at land bases where TF's are spotted by A/C from all over but the planes decide to attack some unimportant airfield even with orders to the contrary. Set the base and the target and get annoyed! Set planes on NI and watch TF's sail by? It's dumb. Unspotted TF's, yes; bad weather, yes. But for months on end?
Thanks for listening, can't wait for the new game.....
