Maestro and I have again agreed to meet on the field of battle and do an ongoing AAR of another battle and refrain from peeking at each other's AAR until complete. This time it will be the "Battle for the Maltese Cross". Attached is the first installment of the AAR from the Allied side. I hope you enjoy it! Remember - best viewed in slide show format when you open it.

This looks really good.. what is the best format to view it in? Using Firefox some of the pages look like this;

if you have Internet Explorer you will get a much better view. Under explorer you also have a slide show button that makes it full screen.
I am not familiar with Firefox and how to make it work.

Hello Banquet,
I had the same problem with firefox, however a while ago I installed an extension called IEtab which instructs firefox to open a link in a internet explorer tab.
Very handy also for other websites not fully compatible with Firefox (e.g. my online banking until a while ago when they finally upgraded).
Cheers,
RedDevil

Nice AAR Gary. I think the lesson so far from the German perspective is "concentration" when on the offensive. You cannot expect in an inf v inf type battle to breakthrough without concentrating a superiority of combat power at the critical point.

<Gasp> - you mean you actually have to apply schwerpunkt tactics to win as the Germans ??? Who'd have thunked ? [:D]

Dave - I agree 100%. The temptation on these is to push units right in to battle, but given 9-days you can be do some probing to see any weakness and then attack with concentration. Easier said then done though. My opponent is very good and still has many days left though. Luckily in another day I get a few extra units which should help. Day four is coming soon...

Day four is up and running. At the halfway point now and all still looks good. Reinforcements coming in, supplies up...will it last?

Days 5 & 6 are posted to the AAR. It is getting very difficult to hold the line. Three more days to go...

Day 7 and 8 ... 20 hours left after this. A great match as usual - you can not beat head to head play on this game engine...

It is done-I have been relieved of command. Next time I will do a couple of things differently.
About my great plan in this game; the initial fight around Rabat was to secure a good observation point. The fighting dragged on in that area far longer than I anticipated. The finale big attack on my right flank was a day latter than wished-I had a very difficult time moving one AB regiment from the Rabat area. This attack on my opponents left flank was supposed to draw off Yakstoks’ reserves. I felt that the mountain division would then be able to break through on the Allied right flank.
As it played out, the timing was off. I had already moved a good part of the Mt DV into position and so decided to stick with the plan-and hope for the best. My best was not good enough-if not for that last Allied BN showing up in-front of my MT troops, this would have been a little closer-if, if.
I had to pass on an AAR this time due to RL, but I will revisit this scenario again in a couple of months.
This was a great scenario-a bit of a slugfest at a couple of points, but still exciting, and obviously, challenging.
As usual, General Yakstock displayed a firm grasp of operational warfare.
Until the next time…

Maestro is too hard on himself - he fought a great battle. I have posted the final results on the AAR. This was great fun and as always I learned a lot from the battle. Timing is everything and in this game it is not a simple thing to master. Coordinating attacks can run afoul of all kinds of issues; movement delay, fatigue, orders delay, artillery interdiction, etc. Just like the real battles. Overall a very close match and well fought by the Germans. I hope you all enjoyed the battle.

Yakstock & Maestro,
As always an interesting and wellmade AAR, which promotes this game at its best.
I actually count on your AARs as one of my 'weekly' reads (hint [;)])
