I just bought this game a few days ago and went through the tutorials, and a few short games. I just have a few questions that maybe can be cleared up for me.

-Sometimes I notice Fighter planes and other units, get linked up with Transport fleets for some reson and can't move them independantly, why does this happen?

-On normal the AI for axis, does not enter into North Afrika. I have a build up of forces in Egypt but they do nothing. Should I take Tobruk/Tripoli right away?

-When I used advance supplies, I don't know how much supplies to put in certain areas. How much supply points get used when units move, attack, or repair.

-Sometimes I have 3 fighter planes covering an area and when a German U-Boat goes into combat with them they all get destroyed. Why is this.

-It takes me a long time to build up forces to start striking back at the axis powers, last game It was Summer 1945, and I just took Sardinia, Corsica, and Sicily. and trying to get into mainland Italy. No D-Day invasion in 1944, not even close. In the pacific I havent reached Wake Island even. I guess I need to rethink my strategies. Any ideas to get allies going sooner!

First of all, welcome to the forums Tonym81!

When you move a unit strategically via transport fleets (the blue arrows) and end the movement on the sea, the unit is supposed to be on board of the transport and ends up linked to it. (You can remove this link by selecting the transport and right click on the unit symbol.)
If you want to make an air unit screen a sea zone (by itself), you have to move it there with normal movement (the green arrows) - so you have to be in range first.

AI Axis is a little passive regarding Africa. Don't hesitate to take the Italian possessions as soon as you feel ready. Or try playing a human in order to get real trouble in the Mediterranean. [8D]

Defense uses just one supply for all units present in a province. Moving basically costs one supply per region for land units, one supply altogether for air units (whatever the distance) and one supply for ships (except transports and subs) when using up to 5 movement points, plus 2-4 more depending on the ship type (light = +2, carrier = +3, heavy = +4) when moving further.
Read chapter 12 in the manual for everything there's to know about supplies as I left out a few details.

Uboats shouldn't be able to touch planes in the air. I guess that your fighters were linked to a transport fleet that got sunk by the sub (see above).

Hard to give a general advice in this situation. I guess you simply need to get more used to the game and how things are done efficiently. I recommend to play a human by email as soon as you know the basics of the game, the first game will probably end in a stunning defeat, but you'll learn more than in a dozen games against the AI. We all started there at some point. [:)]
