Router from hell...

Does anybody have any ideas on setting up routers to work with CC3/COI? I've tried BHQ hosting, BHQ joining, MMCOI, dirrect join using other's IP, dirrect join to me using my IP, etc and no luck.

I have a dual-WAN router which complicates things and I can't just add my machine into the DMZ, but what I've tried so far:

1. I have opened all the necessary ports (including 6073 UDP which I isn't mentioned in the manuals, but was listed here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... us;q240429)
2. I've tried disconnecting one of the WAN inputs to get the router to work more like a normal router.
3. Tried without any local firewall.

The only thing that has worked so far is bypassing the router and connecting dirrectly. This is OK for testing, but I can't play like that...

Any ideas?

Juk :)

No, and you shouldn't have it so connected. [:-]

The game ought to work with the following ports opened:

47624
2300-2400

Set both entries to UDP/TCP

6073 is a DX8 port, and shouldn't been needed for CC3, unless the developers altered that part of the code.

Do you have the WinXP firewall turned off?

Thanks - I just gave it a quick try setting all ports to UDP and no luck still I'm affraid [:(]

Earlier today I read something about turning off all ICMP filtering as that kills old games, but no luck with that either.

I'm gonna try setting up a Socks 5 Proxie server on a dedicated server and use SocksCap to force COI to use that and see if that works.

Sorry, I wasn't clear - I did have them setup as both UPD and TCP (they were just as the manual said before).

You mentioned that you tried to join another players game via IP.

Can you ping the other parties IP?

Yep, just tried again now and I can ping them fine.

I also just tried using running CC3.exe in SocksCap via a Socks 5 proxy server to connect dirrectly to somebody else hosting and it still wouldn't work.

It seems the only way I can play CC is to just bypass the router, which sadly isn't an option other than for testing. I'm all out of ideas now... [:(]

Hey, you paid for that router, and the Mft owes you some support!!!

Check out their website.

Linksys has good info available for gaming, Dlink too.

Give 'em a try.

That's definitely a virtual machine error. Can you manually reinstall those from the distribution files to see if that helps?

If you turn off your router(via DMZ) and try to run the game, you will atleast find out if its a router problem. If it still doesnt run, then you have other issues.

This has been a issue for me ever since i installed a modem/router.At first i couldnt even join a game using the games TCP.The reason was i had to many firewalls running,Windows and Nortons on one PC,and Windows and McaFee on my other. I found out that i needed to turn these firewalls off,as information was passing through 3 firewalls before it was transferred to others or vice versa,in short,it was causeing major lag.Once i turned them off,i was able to join a game. Now my Router is the only firewall i have running.
Some Router,s require you to write port#s twice for each port# once under TCP and once for UDP,some Routers have a drop down box allowing you to do both TCP/UDP under one line. Both TCP/UDP need to be writen.

Running a Modem/Router,with 2 or more PC,s( Iam running 2) This can create more problems if not set up properly. When you have a Router,it sets up a internal IP # for each PC you have connected to it,when opening the ports #(the ones above) you must make sure you select the proper IP# in the *redirection* line in the Port manager(this is found in same place you add port#) For example, my 2 internal IP#s are 192.168.2.10 and 192.168.2.11 I play CC on my older PC,the first IP# is for my older PC,the other is for my new PC. I had the proper ports opened, but i had the wrong IP# in the redirection box, once i changed the redirection to 192.168.2.10,i was able to play as either the joiner or host.

This internal IP# 192.168.2.10(insert your IP#),will show up as the IP# you need to send to your opponent, when playing the ingame multiplayer TCP,this however is not the IP# you need to use,you need to use your external IP#.This can be found in your Router under Devices,My external IP# is 74.13.52.240.The Router calls this the WAN IP.

Hope this Helps.

Check if JAVA is working here:

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

Are Sun's Java and MS VM the same?

I know that there based on the same concept, but I thought MS altered Sun's VM.

In fact, I think that Sun sued MS over it.

I've got both installed.... don't know why [:'(]

BUT

I can play h2h, host and client.

I can play using BHQ to launch, both as host and client

I can play on MMCCIII h2h both as host and client.

SO I must be doing something right by having

1. JAVA working
2. Firewall configured to allow CoI
3. Hardware Firewall turned off in my router
4. Have the required ports forwarded to my CoI PC..

2300 to 2400 udp/TCP
6073 TCP
47624 TCP

There are excellent reasons to have them both installed.

I just wasn't sure why you would direct folks who were having problems connecting to the MMCC3 server to test Sun's version.

No offense, I just wanted to point out what I believed to be a difference between the two technologies.

And its great to hear that you've got your connections working properly.
