I`m thinking of buying this game but would like to know more info about the editor before making a decision. What equipment is available in the game? Does it only cover the 1940-41 time period? Can you add in new equipment types in the editor?

The game comes with two editors - MapMaker and ScenMaker. The first allows you to create and edit your own maps. The ScenMaker allows you to create/edit your own scenarios. The ScenMaker allows you to import a map and an Estab file. The map file you create in the MapMaker.
 
However, you cannot create or edit your own Estab file. This is provided to you. HTTR comes with its own estab file covering the forces that participated in operation Market Garden and includes equipment and forces common to the 44 period for the Commonwealth, German, Dutch, Belgium and for American Airborne forces.
 
COTA comes with a separate Estab file that contains estabs for equipment and forces from 1941 for German, Italian, Commonwealth and Greek forces.
 
The ScenMaker allows you to create your own units and Orders of Battle ( force lists ) but these must be based on the estabs available within the supplies Estabs file. There are literally thousands of these.

Thanks for the timely reply. I'll have to give it some consideration. The game system sounds really interesting but I like the idea of being able to broaden the scope a little. Is there any thought of producing add on "components", like French and Polish 1940 establishments and Russian 1941 establishments and ORBATS?

We have a number of data design teams working on different theatres. Each will be developing their own Estab files. The aim is to expand on the existing Estab file within each theatre in successive titles. Eg. our next title, Battles from the Bulge ( BFTB ), will include the estabs from HTTR as they are both West Front titles. The upcoming Desert Crusade will include the COTA estabs as they are both part of the Mediterranean series.
 
We do have an East Front team working on Red Star Rising ( 1942 ) and  Pacific team working on Guadalcanal/Finschhafen.
