I don't half fancy a quick pacific war, but I am damned if I can get the thing to work under windows XP! v2.2 ran fine under win98, but 2.3 locks up after the credits page. Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Not a lot of info to go by, but two things have been posted here
1)check video card- GeForce 2 & sometimes GeF-3 cards are screwing up (I had a problem with some games too). update your drivers if you have this card.
2) try emulation for win98 for Pacwar, right clicking on the icon, then click on properties, choose emulation... hope it helps

Running AMD 900, crap 32MB NVIDIA card (not GF2!), 256MB RAM. I am fairly technical with these gadgets, and have tried to run the game in al emulation modes and in a DOS (such as it is nowadays!) window. Still no joy! Anybody running PacWar under XP?

I know this is not going to help much but I am running Pacific War on XP ---- I don't know what I did to get it to play! I downloaded and installed as normal and then found I could not get past the credit screen.
I then rem'ed everything in config/autoexec still did not work. So I returned it to normal again.
I then, and have it still, changed the compatibility to run in Win98/ME and disabled the visual themes. There is none to EMS and XMS memory, the rest is on auto and protected.
I hope this helps somewhat for as I have said I still do not realise how it suddenly worked for me.
Though now I am getting my butt kicked by the Jap AI - though - there is a battle royale for Batavia!! ( 6 Jap CVs for the Loss of Yorktown!)
Confused

Thanks very much, mate! It was the EMS that was the problem. For anyone else with this trouble, set to run in Win98 compatability, set EMS (under memory) to "none". Oh, right click on the icon for the .exe file to do all of this!
