I am wondering if there is any penalty for having supply units under a higher HQ orders. For instance, would an infantry regiment suffer a lack of supply if its supply unit was directly commanded by the “on map boss” of a DV HQ?

This has come up do to regimental supply units AKA “REMF’s” (not polite) fleeing to the furthest hinterland on the lovely Island of Malta thus leaving the maneuver battalions (German Airborne) low on ammo and starving. I have one full regiment fatigued to the max and will not move, largely due to a lack of basic supply. This particular regiment has had some chronic problems with supply, partially due to the supply unit moving a couple of times in 6 days, and at least one supply Column getting whacked. (This on top of an “air drop” SEP during the 1st two days has made for a hungry unit).

I know supply units must be in a safe area and have safe route for their supply columns, but what about distance from the SEP’s? Does it make sense to have the highest level supply unit at the SEP and the subordinate (or lower echelon) supply units spread out towards the front line units?

Yes it is a good idea to keep your senior Depot close to its SEP, especially for airborne Depots which rely on man-packs or where the SEP is an air delivered one.

Can you shed some light on the situation of various supply units from subordinate units being ordered about by the "on map boss"? Is there some hidden penalty, ie, will the supply units still send supply to the units to which they would normally send supply, or will it possibly send supply's to other units.

I assume that the supply units will continue to send supply to it's organic organization, regardless of being controlled by the On Map Boss (OMB?). I would like to know for sure as I'm about to get my rear kicked hard by one General Yakstock. The battle is only half lost-plenty of time to make corrections.[8|]

While there is a valid supply line then yes a unit will draw from its organic SEP - ie wherever possible supply uses the organic force structure. However, if a force is isolated it will try to use a base using the current force structure. Also Bases may draw directly from a nearby SEP if that is closer than its organic senior base.
