Not a problem. The guns mounted so tightly together marked her as Italian, and the "stepped down" hull nailed he as Zara Class.

Well,probably not.
I dont know for CAs but Italian BBs,like Littorio class,has seaplanes on stern

That does appear to be where the catapult is.

Probably two reasons. Easier to launch with the wind over the deck from due forward (didn't need as powerful a catapault) and secondly, the one direction the Italian Navy didn't expect to fire it's guns was dead ahead (as in chasing an enemy).

Italians had some good stuff....SM 79 was one of the best torpedo bombers in WWII....the Breda Machinegun was an excellent weapon and their special forces @ put the hurt to 2 RN battleships at Alexandria.....

Always wondered why they did put the catapults on the bow of these wonderful CAs.....underpowered aircraft (needed all the help they could get to get airborne), terrible catapults, or were they smart (keeping these highly flamable A/C away from the ship vitals).....

The Zaras were great ships, arguably the best-armored heavy cruisers in the war.

The Italians mounted them more tightly than anyone else. And while the Zara's had impressive belts, their overall "balance" wasn't particularly good..., expecially when you consider how much the cheated on the Treaty's allowed tonnage.

The closest spacing I can confirm for guns of this class is indeed Italian, the 31.9 inches on the Argentine Almirante Brown class. The Soviets got within about an inch of that with their 180mm guns, but these weren't just twins--they were triple mounts. As for 8in guns, the Italians (1m) probably beat the Americans with their spacing, but the best info I have is that the Americans used "about 46 inches." This would apply to both triples and twins. Triples give you twice the chabce for an adventure with shell interference.

Italians build a really great ships in WW2.
Look at Littorio class BBs,they was great looking ships. Only real problem with them was low action radius(in meditteranean sea that is not relevant)and secondary guns was so tight together and not very useful because of that.
Zara,Pola,Fiume... was the great cruiser designs and with Littorio and Vittorio Veneto BBs they had potential to rule the Mediteranean sea,but problem was that Italian fleet never has a good leadership.
After the Italy surrenders allies want Litorio class BBs as fast escorts for CVs in pacific but their short range was a big flaw in pacific. After that Stalin wants those ships but western allies scrap them to denied them to Stalin.

Almost every nation cheats on treaty,look at German Hipper class cruiser. They almost has 19000 tons on full load.

Indeed. I've oftem heard it suggested that the italians had extremely good engineering, but pretty much zero mass manufacturing.
