has anyone ever cancelled Yamato and Musashi?

what are the benefits?

if i cancel them i can accellerate other carriers correct?

or is cancelling those monstrositys a sin against the IJN [:D]

I'd cancel Musashi to be able to accelerate carriers etc. But then, I've only played IJN once in PBEM.

In Real Life they are virtually complete at wars start (Yamato running trials/working up and Musashi fitting out) so there is virtually nothing to be saved by cancelling them. In game terms, many seem to cancell work on Musashi at minimum. So I can only assume it's because of another piece of economic idiocy in the production system.

Aye. They were laid down already. In RL it'd benefit nothing to shut them down (well, maybe crew requirements). Yamato I'd never shut down because it costs little to have it in game, but with hindsight I feel that IJN has few uses for Musashi..even when I like the 17th century swordmaster...[8D].

You would not be able to built 5 carriers in available shipyards instead - so why bother?

Someone said 1 Shinano = 3 Unyos. Assuming the Shinano took as much steel as the Yamato and Mushashi (she might have actually taken less), then you would have enough for 9 Unyo class CVs (or maybe more...)

And who would need 9 Unyo class CV with pilot exp. 20[:D].
You need elite pilots more than carriers.
Japan lost war at Midway,not because they lost 4 CVs,those elite pilots on them was devastating loss.

So,i will go with Yamato and Musashi every time,they can do much more damage comparing to bunch of CVs with funny pilots on them[;)]

As you said, the loss of 4 CVs did not cost Japan the war.  It could be well-arugued that the loss of the CVs at Midway cost Japan the *initiative*. 
 
However, in actuality Japan did *not* lose that many pilots at Midway (only about 25% of their air groups, top of my head).  There were very few pilots/crews that were killed outright during Allied attacks, and pilots were given priority when the CVs were abandoned.
 
When most of those pilots wound up getting sent to the attrition campaign of The Solomons, -that- is what decimated their pilot cadres.

Well,i think that we agree here,Midway was turning point in Pacific,i think that Japanese lost more than 25% of their pilots.
I think that after Midway almost all pre-war pilots was lost.I cant be 100% sure of that.

But,point is,Yamato and Musashi is much worth than bunch of CVs with green pilots.
Japanes player should focus on original KB to wage war at sea. KB can be deadly even in 1945 in right hands.
So,the message is:Dont halt Musashi[;)]

200,000 tons of steel = six Taihos, ten Unryus, 15 Ibukis, or 80 DDs.

The allies have more BB's tthan you can shake a stick at, allot of them are modern with big guns... you need Yamato and Musashi simple as. You only have the Nagato's that can go toe to toe with a modern allied BB.

Again: steel was available. Slips at shipyards not.

only counting Shokaku and Zuikaku (even with one of them getting her aigroup depleted) + the survivors of Midway, that makes at least 1/3rd, not to mention the ones in the HI and the lighter CVs like the Junyos.

If you take a look at what Masatake Okumya says about all that in the book he cosigned with Jiro Horikoshi, you'll find the Solomons thesis very convincing, as he was in the action at a key moment, before, during and after Santa Cruz [:)]
Not to mention certain accidents, like the loss of the air cadets aboard the Mutsu when she blown up, the Naval Air Academy really didn't need this kind of events to be in a bad shape.
