Define 'Largest Shot' please. Largest calibre weapon? Heaviest projectile? Largest explosive power? Do missiles count or only guns?

I actually don't think this is the answer but gotta try. Japanese 18.1 inch (460mm) guns mounted on Yamato and Musashi. But navy guns does not only mean ones mounted on ships that were commisioned...

Yeah Kip I saw Dale's point, but isn't the missile launched by the SSBN the "weapon"? I suggested the Campbeltown because the Royal Navy basically converted the DD into a weapon when she rammed the dry dock during the St. Nazaire commando raid. The DD was also packed with explosive the aim was to render the dock incapable of use by the Tirpitz. She weighed in at 1260 tons and was packed with 4500Kg of depth charges. Based on an individual weapon's weight I think she wins, but what is a "weapon" and how should we consider it in this case?

Any instrument or instrumentality used in fighting or hunting.

Based on the definition, maybe I'm wrong, seems like a warship is actually a weapon. Dale seems to find it funny so maybe we should be looking for something out of the ordinary. Largest may not mean weight, could be volume, anybody considered some of the airships post WW1? Can we consider the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth from WW2 did they make it to naval status?

What about the "Gustav", German world's biggest gun during WWII?
Effective range of the projectile: more than 40km. I don not know if the [Super] Japanese Battleships main guns had a larger range.

I would think that's the ultimate. Currently the US Trident D5 appears to be the most powerful weapon deployed. 8 MIRVs with a possible total yield of 3.8Mt. All the Typhoon's weapons have been de-commissioned and the max possible yield of the UK Tridents is around 1.2Mt.

A nuke is a nuke, but are we talking about convential projectiles or nuclear projectiles?

If conventional, I would stick with the Japanese Battle-ship Yamato and her sistership Musashi, with her 460mm guns, maximum range 42,000 meters.

Also note that the original question is 'has been fired by any navy?', so actually even a Trident D5 would not count since I'm not aware that any Trident has ever been fired with a live warhead (NORAD is not returning my calls).

The Trident is the "carrier" of the projectiles [the nuclear payload]. The Russians have btw tested a single 45megaton warhead.
That is what I would call the "ultimate".
