Hello,
I have a problem with SPWAW(spwawv44complete.exe spwaw44f.zip) which I downloaded recently from mbnet.fi-server. Everything goes great as I install it, but when I launch the game it wont start. Intro starts ok, but after it has ended program just finishes. No error messages, just back to the zero-position. Re-installing doesnt help. What can I do? This is cruel!!!!(win98,AMD K6-2 350MHz, 64Mb)

Did you chaps get 'compression error #7 (or was it 11?' on the file vid998.smk when you installed. I did and, as a result, vid998.smk didn't make it into the snd/stream subdir. Vid998 must be the intro movie, because the first thing the program does is look for it; when it doesn't find it it terminates. I've emailed 'Matrix' looking for a clean copy of vid998, or a workaround, but no reply yet.

As I said, I got no error messages. And I checked the vid998.smk, it is in correct folder and seems to be ok. Also the installation log seems fine. This is complete mystery to me...

Glups,
I've got the same problem in 2 Pcs
One with W95 and the other with W98
Both have in common that they do not have
a sound card.

From the games SSI origin as SP1 a sound card has always been needed.

I have no sound card either. Hym...... does anyone have SPWAW working without a sound card?
Is this correct size for the vid998.smk file, 57850kb?

VID998.SMK 55,908kb 5/3/00 7:16pm is what I have this PC with Ver4.4. There have been alot of guys that could not run the game on their PC at work because they didn't have sound cards. I suggest that you pick the cheapest one you can, because SPWAW doesn't require anything special but it does require one.

Try turning the hardware acceleeration off on your vid card, manually going to 800x600 before starting, and/or upgrading to DX 8.

I'm having a similar but i think more drastic problem with spwaw .. basically i got a cd with it on ( including the updates ) but when i try and install the original version all i get is a screen flicker and nothing , just drops back into windows ? anyone got any ideas . i've looked through some of the other postes re pacwar and WIR and some people do seem to have similar problems but no solutions are forthcoming unfortunately.
My machine is a P3 733 128ram win 98 . and i have dirX 8 . i've clobbered the background programs to free up system resources and all to no avail .. anyone help please i'm desperate

I have tried to simulate these and in one other thread mentioned problems: Old sound cards that were made for dos, -they work after driver patch, and I mean after patch.. I haven't tested yet ess, intel, or other motherboard-soundchip, but it's under work, beginning of this week.
I have also installed game with many different situations, and it gives these errors if Win is using too much memory. Specially in win95 and win98 installed with service packs. Win98 second edition for machines that doesn't have windows, works fine. Pure win95 with 32megs memory didn't give me chance to play after videos;-this back to desktop error. I installed it in 'safemode' and everything worked fine with sounds and video coming from motherboard. Win98 first edition, DX7a, 68-128megs mem. -didn't work first, but after installation in 'safemode' everything was fine. At the start of the week I finally get win2k from my friend to test purposes, and three other motherboards with soundcard and videos inbuilt. I'll be back.

thanks for the advice .. heres what happened
1) turned off hardware acceleration .. no differance .. still just flics past installation screen.
2) then tried it in safe mode and got the following
a) PACWAR .. error message in installation screen stating no sound card but installation can continue anyway.
b) in SPWAW similar error message but also stating that 800x600 not supported .. but installtion will continue
However in both cases the installation diappeared after i had clicked ok on the warning boxes. dropping me staight back into the 'my computer' section which i'd used to get to and launch the set up files.
any more advice would be warmly recieved.
Thank you in anticipation
