Display problems

I am running SPWAW on Windows 2000 SP1 with DirectX 8.0.
During the game, my display will go completely black. If I move the mouse around, the underlying game display will be reviled under the pointer. If I move the mouse pointer far enough the scroll the map, everyting comes back. This happens all the time now. Even when I am in the menus. This does not affect the sound (which continues to play) or the game. Sometimes I get an OP fire but I cannot see what I am shooting at!
