Thanx for your help Ed.
I am 35 this month, but a long time ago in a Galaxy far, far away when I was 23 I was Colledge studying a diploma in computer studies. I never finished the course as a career opertunity arose that meant big buck's for me, ie. well over 500 pounds a week with no overtime, being young free and almost single I jumped on it and had a fine time. now those days have gone I wish I had finished the Diploma.
Anyway I have a mind to do some tinkering of my own with WiR or Second Front. However although I have a Borland C++ Assembler/Compiler I cannot seem to read any of the code in either Game,And I don't know exactly why????
I see this as a Project that I can get into that will help me get back into Programming and something that I would enjoy immensely,I am not trying to undermine anybody but would seriously like to have a go at playing with the code.
So how the hell do I get into the code?

The game comes with compiled code that is in machine language. Matrix does not, and cannot based on SSIs requirements, release the uncompiled source code for others to look at, so you can't look at the source even with a programming tool. There are some games, such as Doom, that have released source code available, but not very helpful unless you want to see code for that style of game. There are a fair number of books on game programming, and there is an excellent site at www.gamedev.com that can help also.

You need the source code to do anything useful, and sadly thats not available, as RickyB points out. Later Borland products sacrificed compatibility with older versions, so my guess is even with the original source code, for Borland v3.1, it would take a lot of work to get it to compile on a later v4.0+ Borland compiler, much less another compiler.

If you had Borland's compiler and debugger from v3.1 and a lot of time, you could do interesting things with WiR, because Gary, probably accidentally, left debugging info attached to the program, but the debugging info was useful only with Borland v3.1, and not later versions. But this is still not the same as having the source code.
