Unplayable due to constant crash on turn one

Hello everyone!

I can`t even start playing the game due to persistant crashing before the end of turn one.
I have seen people posting here with identical problems and simply can`t believe how far back these posts go.

Even more incredible is the fact that after so many patches this issue still hasn`t been solved.

My error report is this:

AppName: war in the pacific.exe AppVer: 1.8.0.0 ModName: mmswitch.ax
ModVer: 0.9.9.0 Offset: 00001b30

Any help appreciated....and oh....yes I want to play it WITH sound!

First, never, never use the back button( I just crashed my turn 1 4 times before I remembered). Second, at least try renaming you SOUND folder to NOSOUND and see if the crashes end. Getting the problem narrowed down will help.

Bugger!

I reinstalled Direct X, updated my Audigy ZS 2 drivers, set hardware acceleration to "none".

Same thing

With NOSOUND though it works fine. (mhmmm......77€ for a game with no sound - me not like).

Anything else I might do to help solve my problem?

THX

You might want to try getting rid of morgan multimedia switch and see if that helps.

Most of crashes seem to be related to sound cards, indeed.

Uninstalled it and deleted every entry in the registry but still same error = mmswitch.ax

Uninstalled it and deleted every entry in the registry but still same error = mmswitch.ax

Paste this into notepad regsvr32 /u mmswitch.ax
then save as un.bat, then run a search on comp for mmswitch.ax
paste the .bat file in that dir and dlb-click. Also did you forget to reboot your computer? I don't know if this is the actual problem but I've problems with mmswitch crashing my movie player. You could also try reinstalling witp and then patch w/1.804comp and see if that helps.

WITP is patched to 1.804 (I have a download version and I`m wondering is there a limit to number it can be installed - for instance Silent Hunter 3 has a limit)

Anyway

@BigJ62

I`ve done what you`ve sugessted and ran that .bat file. It unsigned mmswitch succesfully.

Ran the game and MANAGED to COMPLETE turn 1 WITHOUT crash.
I only hope it stays that way. There was a hardly noticable "static like" crackling when playing certain sounds but nothing to be bothered with.

If things will work from now on: Thank you a lot if the problem returns: Thank you a lot.[:D]

Will this "unsigning" of mmswitch affect any other applications?

http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/mmswitch/index.htm is a indi developer who made this and now it is open src. So if you don't know where this came from or why your using it then you probably have more direct show filters on your computer that may not need to be there as well. I can't tell you what you need and what you don't need but the more ds filters you put on your comp the more fouled up it's going to get. My sound card is audigy 2 zs and i only use the windows console drvr from creative and it handles all channel outputs just fine. good luck

I finished the second turn - no crash[&o]

I have Audigy 2 ZS platinum and in order to display everything I needed some codec packs.
It probably came with this.

Thanks a lot again.

Cheers!
