Sound Problem

Hello.
I replaced SPWaW 2.3 w/ 4.5 a couple of weeks ago, and while the new version is generally a great improvement overall (love the multiplay), I'm having terrible problems with sound in the game. The sounds play, but they load EXTREMELY slowly, it takes 40-50 seconds for the sound for an artillery barrage to load for instance, and individual shots can take up to five seconds. When I turn the soundtrack and all of the other sounds off the game runs very smoothly. I didn't have this problem with the 2.3 version, and don't have a similiar problem in other games.
Now I noticed in the "What's New" lists that somewhere along the line "double buffering" had been added for the sounds. I don't really know what that is, but since I'm having problems now, and I wasn't before, I have to wonder if that isn't what is causing all of the delays I'm suffering. So my question is, is there anyway I can disable the double buffering of the sound, or is there anything else I can do short of turning all of the sounds off.
Thanks for your help
