How to get the planes out to the Pacific islands

I am playing the 1922 campaign as Japanese. Once I occupied islands like Wake and Midway, how can I get my landbased aircrafts out there? I can create an Air Transport task group with AP and AK but I cannot transfer the planes on board? Do I have to wait till I have CVs?
Lets be honest, there is no way you can fly them out there in 1922! I surely hope it was 1942...

make a transport TF with 1 AK. MAKE SURE YOU SET IT TO DO NOT UNLOAD
make sure the aircraft sqn is attached to an unrestricted HQ - if it is attached to a restricted HQ you will not be able to load it. the easy way to find out which HQs are unresticted is to load troops with a transport TF and note which HQ the units you are allowed to load are attached to.
then load the sqn on the AK and set sail. you will not be able to load supplies with it so don't bother. if the sqn name is shown as loaded on the ship but no capacity is taken up then sail anyways - it should work itself out usually.

You don't need to create single ship a TF for each airunit you wish to load. You can create a multi-transport TF and each ship will loaf 1 air unit. After loading the air units click "load supplies" and any remaining cargo capacity will be filled with supplies.

of course, but i find myself pulling my hair out trying to load units sometimes so it's easier in the end to do air units individually step by step and avoid messing everything up. also i personally have never been able to load supplies on top of air units, but that could be just me...

As said before, the important thing to remember is that some aircraft need to be switched to a new HQ before you can load them. Troops as well. For example, troops and planes assigned to the Australian military need to be changed to the South Pacific of South West Pacific before you can load them on ships. Otherwise, I have never had a problem loading and unloading aircraft on AK. One unit per ship no matter what the size.

turns out you can add supply on top of aircraft on transports - neat!
