Casualties

I always use detailed combat and find the casualty results very realistic. Often they are approximately equal, just like the actual war.

Sometimes, after the battle has been decided (e.g. enemy is routed) I use "instantly resolve" for mopping up. I have sometimes gotten strange and lopsided results with this option, such as suffering twice as many casualties as the losing side when I thought I was ahead casualty wise.

Is "instantly resolve" bugged ??

Works reasonably well for me, honestly, was hoping to get more feedback. I've had it give the results I expected, more or less, but I'm not sure how it does its calculations.

Ericbabe could answer that one but you have to remember that once you hit that "resolve instantly" you lose control of your forces to the vagrancies of the AI which has not always been known to make the best moves. The battle ain't over til the Fat Lady sings or the "Forces have left the field" so try to stick it out if you can to insure a win. Obviously something went wrong with your command after you" abandoned" it.

Instant resolve is just a quick-and-dirty way of finishing combat.  Results are largely based on current levels of WTF.  We could maybe try to balance it out a bit more, but it was never intended to include all the simulation elements of the other two types of combat.

"Abandoned" my command. How dare you! Pistols or cold steel ??

I probably could have chosen a more suitable description such as "delegated your command"," Relinquished your command", "transferred your command"and as I end my refrain, "Thrust home!" (my apologies to Edmund Rostand).:)

Drex:

Your point and ericbabe's are taken. It pays to finish the battle myself. The mopping up really takes very little additional time and that's what I've now been doing.

Thanks.

I've occasionally used instantly resolve in situations that were less then promising and pulled out victories myself.

Yes I've done that myself.:) so a corollary to the above is : don't cut and run to the "instant resolve" unless you are losing. Don't know if it works once you reach "wavering".
