How does this compare to UFO Defense?

This comes at an odd time for me. I spent several 3 am nights last week playing UFO Defense on DosBox and had a blast.
I always thought if someone were to take that game and convert it to windows and update the graphics, it would sell very well.
UFO Defense is one of the top 10 PC games of all time and I cannot believe a game as old as it is, and being played on DosBox sucked me in as much as that did last week.
Does this game have any connection to UFO Defense, is anyone working on this game that worked for MicroProse?
I took a look at Laser Squad Nemesis when it came out but was dissapointed, the tactical part of the game was nicely done but it was more or less MP only and had no stratigic layer that made UFO Defense such a classic
I will be keeping an eye on this game

From what I understand, it is virtually an exact port, with some tech/building names (and home planet) changed to protect the guilty.
To be blunt, judging from talk at the official forums, it'll be a wonder if Tri-Synergy doesn't get sued for copyright infringement. It's *that* close.
That said, it's about bloomin' time!!! [&o]

Who owns the X-com liscence now,is it Hasbro?
The thing i could never understand, from going to fansites and reading articles, was that whoever owns it now has no plans on making another game but wanted a a huge amount of money for the liscence, since it was such a popular title, pretty much killing any chance of someone buying it.

I read awhile back on a gaming site (IGN, I believe?), that once the 2 brothers who were the main designers of the original Xcom games are done with their Laser Squad update, they are seriously looking at trying to acquire the XCom license rights back. As long as it's somebody who doesn't waste it on crap like XCom : Interceptor. Apocalypse had some really good ideas, but it was too bogged down with boring minutiae to really be as enjoyable as the first 2 games.

Now that i thought about it i was thinking of the FallOut series that the developer wanted an arm and a leg for.Hasbro didn't want to do any more X-Com games after the debacle that was Enforcer, but they weren't interested in selling the licensce either. That was the part that didn't make sense.
@ AB,
I bought LS:Nemisis when it first came out.It didn't have the same feel for a variety of reasons. My major gripe with it though was that it was a work in progress, which you didn't find out about until you installed the game.
I thought Apocolaypse was a pretty good game. The two big flaws,to me,seemed to be the extremely repetitive enviroments and the fact that the AI tended to bunch up its units in one major group. So that took out the suspense factor. One minor quibble was that if you just raided buildings looking for aliens you took a relations hit with the group controlling it,but...if you just waited for them to make their presence known..you took a relations hit.It was kin of a lose-lose situation.

The three things that made Apocalypse less than UFO Defense, IMHO, were
1. that your soldiers were much more powerful in relation to the aliens (and much more survivable)
2. that the aliens basically just rush at you most of the time, instead of you having to dig them out
3. the weird cartoon-like graphics; UFO Defense was trying to look realistic, which fit the mood MUCH better

I just thought they unbalanced the whole game with Apocalypse...really tilted the thing towards the Geoscape part of the game. I'm all for adding details, and such...but, come on, was ANYONE crying out for THREE types of research labs? Little things like that, packed in to systems of submenus, caused it to drop off in my eyes. It wasn't a BAD game, per se, it was just a dropoff from what had been good.
