Artillery Bombardment Dice

From reading some of the recent posts regarding artillery bombardment a question has come to mind. Is it better to have two dice or one when bombarding? Does two dice mean you have to roll both numbers to obtain a hit thus decreasing your chances or does it mean you get two chances to score a hit?

You want to roll one die with your indirect fire units.....there is a minimum # to roll, so when rolling two dice you must roll above that minimum number with both dice.  You'd rather do that with one dice[;)]

Thanks for the quick reply.  That makes a big difference.  I've been doing it the other way (I thought two dice were better than one).

It's only a matter of probability.

A rather simple method but a good one.

Say you have a "3" die "medium" artillery. Without malus, it has 50% (4,5 or 6 on 1 die) to score a hit. If the target protect himself, it drops to 25% (1/2 x 1/2) for two dice.
With a "1" "super heavy" artillery you hit every time even if the target is well entrenched.

Note that you could find this probability in the bottom left hand corner of the CRT.

Zanekin.......if an arty unit's die says it will hit on a "3"........the probability of you getting a kill is 67%, not 50%......you kill on 3,4,5, and 6.....4/6.
