Prisoners and obliteration

Early in the war, when I surrounded an enemy brigade it would surrender. Often it would reappear in the next battle. I was a little put out when I captured the Eagle Brigade three battles in a row, but to be fair, the third time it appeared it had only one soldier on the map. Aren't captured brigades, including LU's, not supposed to be regenerated? Doesn't capture of all the surviving remnants remove that brigade from play? Shouldn't it?
Now, with dragoon tactics and better weapons, I find that some surrounded Union brigades are obliterated before they can surrender. At the start of the next turn there is just no one left to shoot at, and my six brigades have to go looking for another victim. When AI brigades are thus wiped out shouldn't the result be the same as when they surrender, at least insofar as giving up their weapons and strategic supply? And shouldn't they also be prohibited from appearing in the game on following turns? And perhaps the player should be given credit in the battle report and events report much the same fashion as he is for forcing the enemy to surrender.
I am still in awe of the guy who got 32 enemy brigades to surrender in one battle.

When a brigade surrenders, you just get the men and weapons, not the name. the brigade will be refilled with new recruits?

One of the things I meant was that after a brigade is obliterated, no less than when it surrenders, and in a larger sense when you are in possession of the battlefield, you should have access to the weapons and supplies the enemy leaves behind. Separately, I assumed (I know) that when a brigade was captured or completely destroyed it would not be recreated. I don't know what the practice was at that time.

My one wish with surrounding a unit and destroying it and even when you just defeat them and they retreat and you get weapons I wish it would prompt you before picking up the weapon. Yeah they only drop and pick up a new weapon if it's rated better but the player should decide if they want the added cost in upkeep or not. I get all my units to the weapons I want and then win a battle and the next thing I know several units have european made rifles that aren't rated much better but cost more upkeep.

Surrendered brigades are destroyed. It does seem we have a bug wherein more than one brigade is created with the same legendary unit distinction.

Since its not possible to pass on the replaced weapon to another unit, perhaps the player could be compensated by receiving back half any cost paid for the original weapon.
It would be useful also if one could capture some supplies abandoned by the defeated side.

Surrendered weapons could go into the weapons pool where you could draw from them at your choice.

That's an idea that's already in the Wish List thread. It's not a bad one, but it
is one that would require a whole lot of programming. Perhaps something for the future.

Well, we already get weapons from captured/surrendered enemy units, so a few supply points wouldn't be too hard to add. [:)] Maybe.

Thats why I suggested an alternative - simply repaying half the cost of the weapon that is replaced. I assume that this would be much easier to programme since it just reverses what happens in the game now when one buys a more expensive weapon.
