The release has been put back to may the 1st.

I went and got hold of the first UFO: enemy unknown because i was getting excited about this new game, but now they have put it back - again - hasnt this supposed to be coming out for like 3 years now?

I suppose i sound like a troll but its ridiculously frustrating. Why put back again?

What's your source? The dev webpage still says April 16, and I don't see any English announcements to the contrary.

I haven't heard that yet but if true, fine with me...the delays are getting shorter. There are allot of people counting on this to be very close to the original X-Com, and if it comes out buggy they will get slammed. Be thankful they are I presume trying to get it right. If you haven't paid money I don't see the problem...plenty of games to play while while we wait.

The official site now confirms this info. May 1st.

Does this mean that the Matrix download is delayed as well?

Could be something as simple as needing to insert some Matrix logos etc.

... or it could be a whole bunch of bugs that Matrix wants fixed. Who knows. I don't get the impression that the developers are terribly experienced. It looks like a young development team. That can make it very hard to maintain the discipline necessary to ship a complex piece of software with a high quality. But I am speculating.

Well, I've got no problems with a delay, if they need it to get the game right. there is nothing more annoying than having to download half a dozen patches before the game will even work right out of the box!

And, hey, if you guys are looking for an xcom fix, there are some very impressive user-made original game concepts based on Xcom out there for download. I especially like this one...

http://ufoai.net

I've played it a little bit...the tactical part of the game is a LOT more detailed...sniper rifles, airburst grenades...very well put together, as well. Like I said, it's a totally fan made remake of Xcom that doesn't even use the original game's source code, so no copyright issues, either.

Yeah, but in reality, quality tends to plateau -- fixes begin to introduce as many more side effects than they solve. At that point, the cost (time) to truly improve the product begins to expand radically. I'd like to see a well designed game with no game-breaking bugs and a reasonable amount of polish. Then a few patches to add a few features that didn't make it in, and solve the worst player-reported bugs. Bugs and software are a fact of life.

Well this game has had a ton of release dates and missed them all. They have yet to release the demo that was reported 95% done in November then again in March. This game is a first release from an unknown developer in the Czech Republic (same place as all of those AfterCrap games came from). I'll wait for a demo before I get my hopes up for a good UFO game.

I'm sorry but I just gotta chuckle when I'm on game boards and people get so upset just becasue a "game" hasn't come out. Do people really have nothing else to play or nothing else to do until it comes out? I would assume that it being their first game and unknown they would really like to get it right as much as possible. You only get one chance at it, if they bomb on the first one(a game they started 5 years ago), they won't get another shot. Be patient. It will be what it will be, when it's ready.

As for no demo, I'm sure they will have one eventually...or just wait to hear what people have to say about it.

I don't think anyone is particularly upset. We're just skeptical. :=)

It was reported on Chaos Concept's site about two months ago, that the English version of the game was complete.  They specified it was coded, tested, documentation complete, artwork complete, and in all respects ready for shipment.   Also, as of April 16, Chaos Concept's release date was still showing April 17.

With all these assurances of completion, I put a deposit on the game at the local Gamespot store, as they will not order new computer games without a deposit anymore.  Chaos Concept's site will not accept my registration to address this complaint to them so I am hoping Matrix can provide a phone number to them for me.  I am looking for the game designers to refund my deposit as apparently either they are deliberately misleading us as to the status of the game.  I'm not going to have my money being held in escrow for months or years!

Why can't people be honest?

I think you left something out... You said you put down a deposit at the GameSpot store (guessing you meant GameStop)... So, how exactly would you expect CC to refund your money when they don't even have it? Personally I stopped using GameStop years ago since they...well...suck~ However I'm sure they haven't changed their refund policies, so you should be able to go up there at any time and get your $5 deposit back with no questions asked. Personally I'd suggest you just buy it from Matrix :)

As far as sending a complaint to CC...Well, at this point Extraterrestrials is out of their hands... The game has already gone gold and is production, most likely they're taking a nice vacation already. I agree that they have major problems with keeping their customers informed.... They're soon going to learn they can't treat customers like this...and they'll see the consequences for their mistakes in about 2wks.

I agree with the let them finish the game bit, last thing I want is another Medieval 2, Silent hunter 4 or X3 the reunion, half finished game dropping though my letter box. By the time they patch these games so that they are playable your utterly fed up with them, thus a waste of dosh.
