CHS Help?

CHS 2.08
Scenario 155
Andrews Map Ext 6.2
Pwhex_ext 6.3

Troop Movement and Map Issues

1. Java - Pamakasan base 541, hex 24,66
Troop there can't move, looks like they should be able to move north and maybe west.

2. North of Rangoon Troops at hex 30,31 trying to go south to the hex north of Moulmeim hex 30,34 which is southeast of Rangoon is hex 29,30 keep moving northeast? The troop show they are moving northeast and not southeast. Hex 30,33 is show eastnorth of 30,31, it should be southeast!

Is this a map or pwhex issue?

How do I tell if I have the correct Pwhex file? I just download 6.3 version from Andrews site, it didn't fix the issue.

It sometimes happens when hex they previously planned to go thru is occupied by enemy...wild route changes can happen. Try to change destination of units to friendly base. I think "Movement AI" gets very confused time to time.

You can check first if bases align correctly with map. That usually tells if you have correct map. (Like not having bases in middle of sea etc.). Then use keyboard key "1" (one above Q, not numpad). That gives you code of what terrain should be in hex. If those matches with map graphics you have correct pwhex.dat.

List of what the 2-letter codes mean are somewhere on forum..but they can be deducted quite easily. Ca=Coastal Atoll (I think), Cw=Coastal Shallow water etc.

If Rangoon is enemy occupied or has enemy units in it the shortest supply route to 30,34 is actually NE. Remember units base their movement plot on the shortest supply path and not the quickest movement route to their destination.

Sounds like a scale issue with the map...

Why? It is on an island?
[EDIT: But I could see reclassifying the straight as a river...]

I meant scale issue on the game map. The 60-mile hex is at too big a scale to see it properly...

1. Ok - Pamakasan is on an Island, I just wish I knew this early in my game, the goal is to hold Soerabaja not Pamakasan.

North of Rangoon, the unit I'm moving is two hexes north of Rangoon, I'm moving the unit one hex south (just north of Rangoon) then one hex east (north of Moulmein). The unit shows it's moving Northeast, not Sounteast? Rangoon as emeny units in it, but still under allied control, Moulmein is under emeny control, there are both allies and emeny units in the target hex, north of Moulmein. The unit moves south on hex, then jumps back north (weird never seen this before). I don't see any alignment issues but, will check with the 1-key.

Take it up with ABDA and the Dutch that's how they were deployed.

Units will plot the shortest route to their destination using Supply cost, NOT Movement Cost they are different. The shortest supply route to your destination for the unit is to move Northeast.

Even f you want to move to an adjacent clear hex (let alone jungle or mountain) and that hex is not connected to your hex by a direct transportation route your unit could potentially move on 3 or 4 trail hexes along a circuitous route to reach the adjacent hex.

I went back to an early save and it's starting to look like a zone of control issue, I'll post some pics later and then maybe someone can explain it.

Your unit has two choices to get to the hex you want it to go to...

1st Choice (The one you want and expect) Move one hex SW on the rail, then E Cross Country to the hex you want to be in. However since the Cross Country Move cost 50 in supply it causes the unit to plot the second choice which is - NE to Magwe on trails which only cost 25 points, then down the rail line to the hex you want to be in.

A similar "phenomena" occurs when you are 1 hex SW of Mandalay and want to move to the adjacent clear hex to the east, 1 hex SE of Mandalay. Your units will be plotted back around through Meiktila and Taung Gyi.
