Preferred "Scale" of Combat

In my early boardgaming days, the scale revolved around corps or divisions, and sometimes regiments. Games like Panzerblitz and Panzer Leader changed all that, and narrowed the focus.
With PC gaming, now I've found that "operational" level games no longer appeal to me. Even with the "god's eye" view, I'm more interested in tactical combat, at the battalion level (SPWaW) or the reinforced platoon level (CC:CoI).
Have your perspectives changed over the years, as mine have, or do you still find enjoyment in larger-scale operational or strategic simulations and the increased abstractness?

I am better at strategic and even operational level, I enjoy smaller scales, but small scale tactics I am not as good at.

Scale makes no difference to me. As long as the game is a good game and does a good job of simulating the subject matter I will enjoy it. I like the variety of different eras and scales.

With paper wargaming, I was very influenced by the strategic scale of World in Flames. I became more comfortable with finer scales as I learned more about smaller unit tactics (and this was partly by playing).
After purchasing and originally not really enjoying TOAW (The Operational Art of War), I came back to it armed with said knowledge and became an avid player. Then Combat Mission taught me how much fun tactical gaming could be.
I'm glad I broadened my horizons when it came to scale. I'm looking forward to Matrix World in Flames so I can indulge in a bit of power-mad, overall manipulation of a war effort again. [;)]

Hi guys,
my 2 cents here.
I do prefer tactical. Even if I suck at them. [;)] You have a much better feeling of the combats. I like to see my tanks and soldiers.
I do like operational games as well, if they are fluid, fast and easy to play. Attrition war isn't fun.
More strategic games, involving politics, commerce, production, research and a lot of bean counting, are pretty low on my scale.
JeF.

I prefer both! [;)]
But really, I don't mind....I do like to dabble in both and, of course, I'm crap at both.
Sometimes I like to move divisions around and deal with research and development and resources, moving ships full of stores, othertimes I like to get down and dirty with the platoons.

Most recently I have played tactical scale games where largest piece of infantry is platoon and all else are individuals. But I have fond memories about games like Civilization, Battle Isle 3, Empire and Master of Orion. I might get back to larger scale (war)games but right now I'll stick with tactical level.
Supreme Commander is must-have (along with new PC [:'(]) and I really should start playing Combat Missions and Total War series (which I already have)... but I'm still suffering MegaMek addiction [:D]
