Ancient Rome vs Modern America

Interesting comparison here ---> http://militaryhistorypodcast.blogspot. ... erica.html

I've been wondering if there are any other possible similarities. Loss of Military Strength is particularly interesting. Although, I'm not sure if it's exactly true. War in Iraque isn't popular in the USA, but does that mean it is a nail in their coffin. I think not. Also, is the USA really 'overextended' militarilly?

One of the problems Ancient Rome had was their strange reluctnace to use horsemen on a large scale, Roman armies relying strongly on infantry. In other words, they would refuse to make progress sticking to their traditional way of waging wars. It seems not to be true of modern US Army.

I much prefer "Ancient Rome." The user interface is much simpler. "Modern America" was released with too many bugs, and the patches have not helped.

Rome didn't have nukes in spades to back up their excellent military.[:D]

LMAO at that paster...very good. But I can see this post going downhill...again from an innocent initial post.

Wonder when people will start REALLY think about why is it so?

Not brain patches, thus proving Mr. P's point...

"modern America" released in 1992 was total loss, the patches in 94 96 98 went a little ways to make it "playable" But the big rework in 2000 followed by patches in 2002 and 2004 helped a lot. Now the 2006 patch has taken the game back down the path of obselecence and irrelevance.

Problem is/was that the patches after 2000 are incompatible with most computers.

America will be seen as just a short flash in the pan compared to the might of Rome in future history.

No, because Americans write today's history, so Rome will eventually be forgotten...

There surely are some similarities but this is not a very well-thought out comparison.

America: Avian Flu, Obesity
global warming

[:)]

BTW, there are much worse things than to be likened to Ancient Rome. It's many steps up from being compared to Nazi Germany, which is the standard pinhead comparison.

Anyway, carry on. People with no arms laughing at the guy who's lost a few fingers.

My vote is Rome.
Rome was a powerful Empire bent on conquering the known world and basically achieved it's goal.
USA is a nation that doesn't want airplanes flying into it's skyscrapers, it doesn't look like it will be able to stop that.

By the way another worthless thread, started on a game company's forum, with the purpose of giving sneaky little cowards an excuse to blast the USA with cute little snide remarks.
Good show Matrix.
