Real time/turn based? Are you going to ruin yet another great oldie by adding rts kiddie clickfest to it?

The original game was realtime in the earth-view, and turn-based for the tactical combats. I think this is the same, no?

What? what the heck are you talking about...from everything i've read it's set up just like the old X-Com.

I wonder if he's confusing it with the most recent After-whatever game?

In the third X-com game you could choose between turn based and real time.

which means that the reaol time/turn based is indeed correct. x-com was real time on the global screen, and went turn based for the battles. I have high hopes for this game. I'm really hoping this doesn't end up being another dissapointment ala moo3, TOEE, Pool of Radiance and so on. great ggames ruined by flawed execution and game crushing bugs.

Ahhh ok I thought the combat was going to be rts and that just exploded a nerve. I hope it has a lot of speed controls for the world view then like the origional X-Com.

Yes, judging from the game play video, it has those speed controls. You can choose between too slow and too fast.

Bummer. RTS (continous run) strategy and turn based tactics? Thats like the oposite of what it should be. On the strategic level one should have time to make decisions. Less so on the tactical level.
I was hoping for "Shogun: Total War" with space men.

It actually works really well (at least in X-COM). You can set the earty view to move very slowly. I never felt rushed when playing X-COM. If this is the same, it should work fine.

Ewwwww what a sux X-Com lookalike that kind of game would be. After CA's craptastic games after MTW I don't think turn based strategic and real time combat is ever going to be the same again. They just turn into rts kiddie clickfests and all the strategy and tactics are lost to templates of A...B...C.....1....2....3 he who does that fastest with the mostest wins sorta games.

Well as long as the the RT Strat part can be paused or go way slow I guess thats OK. I'm seeing that the Tactical can be RTd if it pauses I'm interested. I tried I think a Demo of the Xcom wego tactical and had real GUI issues with it.

I tried Dawn of war and realy disliked it as you are doing prodcution and battle on the same map at the same time and can't give orders paused. Too bad I really liked the graphics and the battle part. If the production had been seperated out into a Turn based Startegy segement I would have really liked it.

Well if you pause while you give orders that's not an issue;^)

Thats one of the things I love about TW. I set up my army. Then I put the slider to mega fast uber high speed. Then just pause when stuff gets messed up so I can fix it. It only takes about 10 or 15 minutes to fight just about any battle. I used to hate the whole idea of RT but TW and the slitherine games won me over for Tactical things. Still don't like it for strategy though.

TW? You mean Total War? 'cause I don't remember being able to pause the battle to issue new orders...but it's been a while since I played it.

Or did you mean Theatre of War?

The realtime element never really added anything to the game, but it didn't detract from it either(i'm saying X-Com Lost in the city).

Overall though i prefer turn based for this type of game. There are a ton of Warcraft and Command and conquer games out there, and a score more of clones,if someone really needs a realtime tactical level game.
