bonjours messieurs !
I have a problem with a surface fleet wich accept the "bombardment mission", but switch on "surface combat" when I close the menu (not sure to be clear but I'm about to loose my mind) [:@]:

the tf is based at darwin (size 6 port),
most of the ships are from the royal navy,
only CL BB CLAA & DD.
No problem with supply or fuel
No problem with air superiority
no problem with range to the target (Kai island)
patch 1.801, PBEM and late october 42

I NEED this mission !!

Just a guess, but who's your TF leader. Could be a problem with a low-aggression leader "refusing" his orders.

check your TF commander - need high naval and aggression score as always.  They will switch on arrival if enemy surface forces are present.

I had the same problem in the pbem against Raver. There was no official solution but Raver came up with the idea to change the savegame slots. It worked and the problem went away. I've had numerous bombardments since with no reoccurance of the damned bug.

Salut,

A general solution when a TF is refusing an order is to "disband it" and create a new one with the same ships, it works most of the time.

Just wondering if CLAA are allowed in bombardment TF ? I never saw such behaviour in my game.

I've tried several times to create/disband the tf with the same ships, but no result.
May be the CLAA is the problem, willl try today...
I don't think the aggression score of the leader is the problem cause the tf is refusing to switch to "bombardment". The button is available but without effect. [:@]
thank you all !

I have a Bombardment TF operating near Decca (port just below). It consists of
3-BB,1-CA,2-CLAA and 2 DDs. I have used it to bombard many times & it works just
fine. I don't think it is the CLAAs at fault here. Could you possibly use an Aussie
ship for your flag & use an Aussie commander, then add the Brit ships to it.
Could also have something to do with the different commands in Australia....

When you disband, let them sit for a day in port then reorganize. Sometimes sitting disbanded in a port a day will clear anything they have that stops them. Then if that doesn't work, create the force dropping of individual ships till you figure which ship is giving the problem. I to have had this occasionally but usually fix it by this method.

Also change the target could also work.

[:)] I made a try the day after and then: miracle [&:]
I've tried to disband/reform the tf the turn before without any result, but this turn: it works !
in french "la nuit porte conseil" (the night gives good advices)
don't ask me the reason why, I didn't change anything.... it's voodoo [:D]

Just wondering if CLAA are allowed in bombardment TF ? I never saw such behaviour in my game.

I have had Br. CLAA take part in bombardment missions out of N. Aussieland and have experienced no problem with the TF retaining its bombardment mission. I don't know off-hand, if the CLAA actually fired in the mission, but its presence did not cause the mission switching that jeanbart is experiencing.

As noted earlier, I think the problem is with the TF commander. The disband and reform trick might also work.

I wonder if it's a TF slot issue?  Maybe reforming as a different TF number is the reason it worked?

I don't remember if the tf n° changed at each attempt, but I think it did...

Never had CLAA be a problem with bombardment task forces.

I've recently had the same problem with a USN task force trying to bombard Tarawa.  Kept at it for almost a week {game time} before I had them "return to port" which I set at Baker Island.  Once they got to Baker Island, I reissued the bombardment order and it worked fine.  No disbandment was needed {or allowed as Baker was  a level 1 Port}.
