Why is my game and system freezing?

Whenever I am in the game in a battle (single player) the entire system will freeze up and I cant do anything but force restart. I cant cntrl-alt-dlte or anything to get out of it, the sound will even be left skipping/jittering if it freezes at the right time when a sound is being played. I dont know much about computers but I didnt think id have any system issues with running this game as I can play bf1942, diablo 2, and a bunch of other more graphic intensive games.
I just bought this from Matrix games and am pretty concerned as to whether or not I just blew 60 bucks or whether I can get it refunded if this is unfixable. [:(]
Could anyone help me out? Thanks. I tried to attach the dxdiag file thing. One thing I thought I would note was that when doing the tests in that thing, I saw the 3d box rotating, but it was rotating incredibly quickly, so much so that it was basically a blur until right at the last split second when it cuts back to the normal screen. I dont know if that is significant at all.
Thanks for any input.

Your graphic card drivers are from 2005 and the sounds card drivers are from 2002. I would recommend to update them to their latest versions. Many crash and freeze problems can be solved by driver updates.

Thanks for the info.  I hate to be a pestering newb, but I cant seem to find the drivers for my sound card which is (I think) ULi/ALi M5451 AC-Link Controller Audio Device.
Is this what I need to download? I dont understand the technical mumbo jumbo. I've looked around a good deal. http://www.majorgeeks.com/ALi_Integrate ... d4463.html

Well i've tried downloading and installing all kinds of new sound drivers as well as a bunch of video drivers.  Omega driver being the latest and most promising.  However I still am getting this freeze.  Im almost postive I can rule out it being a sound driver issue.  Sounds are not linked at all to when the game decides to crash. A couple more bits of info that might clue someone knowledgable into what is going on is that this same exact bug happens when I run the Close Combat 5 demo.  Also, I remember this same exact freeze happening when I tried to play Age Of Empires (maybe it was AoE2) a long time ago.  How can I get my computer to stop working so hard or maybe deal with these sprite graphics better? I've tried putting the priority on low for COI.  This might work to prolong the time it takes to freeze, im not sure exactly.
