I just bought this game and it is awesome! The Gamespot review is odd at best. Anyway, I have a newer laptop that runs other games quite well. It seems that UFO is a sluggish and choppy. Are there any tips for setting up the .ini file for best performance?

On a regular PC it is not choppy. Um, make certain all unused programs are not running in the background, Many people have things in the msconfig or such that load up programs on bootup that they do not need. If you have many icons in the lower left corner of your screen you have this situation. Right click on each icon and close them. I only run 2-3 such icons.

As for .ini file, wait for a more informed person on this game's handling of that.

Good luck, and good hunting! [;)]

Way to assume that the OP doesn't have a lick of computer knowledge. Considering how one of the major complaints about UFO:ET is the sluggishness of the gameplay, I'm going to assume that BBmike actually knows what he's talking about.

Mike, I also find that UFO:ET runs sluggishly, but at least part of that is the way that the game's GUI works. You can install mods that will alter the way the game plays. One mod that speeds up unit animations is Bman's Ease of Use mod.

In addition, this thread over at the devs' forums has info on improving general game performance on laptop video cards.

I'm not experiencing any sluggishness on mine either. I can't see how there would be a problem seeing as how the graphics can't be described as anything that would be demanding even on a much older computer.

By choppy, do you mean ALL the time or only when units are moving?

There's a problem where the follow camera will jerk around at times, but the only way I can seem to fix it is move the mouse to disable follow. It comes and goes, haven't been able to track it down.
