FTP redirection problems...

OK winXP gurus out there...I can access ftp sites using an ftp client, but whenever I try to access ftp via an http redirection (such as we use on the Matrix downloads page, it just sits there saying "done". In some cases I can get a menu item "copy to folder" in which case I can download teh file to a folder by right cliking, but on matrix and many othe sites I don;t get a "copy to folder" but a "save as" in its place.
When I try that teh file transfer window comes up and just sits there "accessing file properties".
It all works fine on my old ME machine, using the same firewall software (Norton Internet Security 2002).
I turned off the XP firewall, so its not that.
Any ideas. I'm sure I'm not the only one that may be experienceing this!
