We're close, we're close, we're really close...

This is what we've been hearing for the last few weeks. How about, uh, a release date?

It looks like what we are waiting for is a "Gone Gold" announcement from Mr. Heath. Matrix had a very rocky start however they have been executing well lately. I am eagerly awaiting this re-issue. My old copies stopped working when I went to WinXP. This was one of my favorite games. I do not see how they could be doing too much better with the different remakes they are doing. Good for them! I also intend to buy this one soon after it is released.

I must be wierd, but I have never had trouble running CS on WinXP. Desktop and laptop.

Did you do a clean install of XP or just install it over Win98?

I had a lot of fun with West Front and East Front and would like to see those re-released. Like the poster(s) above, I tried to play them on Windows XP but couldn't get them to run.

Bummer.

I'd probably buy them again if the price was right. We'll see I guess.

I think there are problems with certain earlier versions running.  Remember, Talonsoft repackaged these games about five times.  The later "Gold" editions worked for me in XP. 

This is a little off-topic but I always do hard metal installations of new OSs. I learnt that the hard way from M$FT "upgrading" from '95 to '98. This was a long time ago as I believe I had one of the first releases of the EF and WF games. I really want to see how they run on more modern equipment. I have a 2.4 Ghz 32-bit Athlon system and a 2.0Ghz 64-bit Athlon I am just bringing up. The latter one has the best graphics support and it is a lot faster than the Socket-A rigs. One problem I have run in to when moving older games designed for CRT moniters to LCD monitors is that the graphics sometimes do not work well. Lots of detail can be lost and the colors require adjustment. My fall-back is that I kept two of my old, rather nice, 17-inch CRT monitors and I could plug one of them into the graphics card and run it along with or instead of the LCD if I am forced to.
The best thing woud be to find an intermediate-layer program which could run Windows-designed games on Linux without too much penalty. I have not yet tried this. I do not think I will go to Vista. The only reason I keep any Windows rigs running is to play games and I have one accounting program that does not run in Linux. Otherwise Ubuntu is totally superior to Windows anything, from my point of view.
