Kamikaze bug

There has been a discussion in one of the Scenario/Mod threads of a bug that occurs after Sept 1944 where all Japanese aircraft change into a Kamikaze mode in AI games. This is said to happen in all of the modded scenarios (CHS,RHS,Nicks, etc, etc) and in STOCK games. While I have yet to reach the 9/44 date I would like to know if this is a recognized bug and if there is any thoughts as to researching and changing the code to prevent this from happening.

You can take your chances with the search filter, and look for posts by a guy named "Dereck". I believe he a very long running game vs. the AI. I think even (nearly) finished the game, I know was into 1945. Then something happened with one of the upgrades, and borked his game. It think it was logic type thing that changed (so "somethign" became vastly different than in previous patches, or maybe it was that that there -was- always "something" that changed dramatically with each patch). Whatever.
Frankly, I don't know if the AI goes all Kamikaze in 1945. But you might be able to pull something form Dereck's posts about it (if it happens), because he DID push an AI game into 1945.

I finished a game vs the AI and experienced zero, nada, bumkiss (or is it bumpkiss?) zilch, less that one Kamikaze attack. I was soooo disappointed (even more than I was with the A-bomb's lack of "BLAMMO"). I made mention of this in several posts a year ago and recieved an equal number (ie 0) number of replies[:@] Jeesh, you'd think I was M*rky and everybody had me on "ignore"[:D]. The only thing I noticed after the activation events/date was that recon a/c started to fly attack missions. NOT Kamikaze missions.

Thanks for your replies. Ecwgcx, was your game stock or a mod? Feinder, I will try to look up his game posts.

Same here, played one campaign vs. AI Japanese to Jan 1 1945. Never had single Kamikaze attack. Game was started with v. 1.60 and finished v.1.80+ (1.801 or 1.802). Checked the Japanese after their surrender and found that most air units had changed to Kamikaze but I experienced no attacks. That basicly rendered IJAAF/IJNAF totally ineffective from Kamikaze activation date.

That sounds like it may have been the issue, I'm not sure. Was anything channeled up to Matrix as a bug needing correction?

Not from me, but I recall there were similar experiences reported. I haven't played 1.804 to Kamikaze activation yet, so I don't know if latest release helps. They may, but it takes *lot* of gaming time to confirm.

It seems to me we had some people with them working (pre 1.804 it seems), because otherwise I wouldn't had debated that historically around 20% of them hit a ship, whereas we were getting reports that hit rate was way, way down, like 5% or less.

There is another 'kamikaze bug' that PzB is experiencing in his PBEM - namely that they tend to fly against ground targets as well[:(]
Would it be worth fixing the apparent 'no-fly bug' in AI for them just to crater airfields?
It seems this is a multi-faceted problem (allegedly)
1. they don't fly
2. if they do, they fly into the ground
3. if they don't hit the ground they don't hit ships either
