In anticipation of the next "Where's the patch?" thread, I thought I'd update all of you. We've been internally testing the most recent changes and things looked ready, but a PBEM-related glitch was found that has pushed things back a bit. We really do expect the official release of the patch this week. Heck, we need to give all of you something to do for the holiday weekend since gas prices are making it too expensive to drive anywhere. (Just think: 1 tank of gas = 1.5 Matrix games. So, stay home, conserve, and buy a Matrix game to reward yourself!)

Oh, and one more thing: jimwinsor, who put together the July scenario, has just delivered a pre-Fredericksburg (= Nov. 1862) scenario. We're going to want to test it a lot before releasing it, not to mention that implementing it will require some added code, so it won't be in this coming patch, but you do all have a new scenario to look forward to (and we certainly hope to add others in the not-too-distant future).

Yeah, I'm aware that Europeans pay far more for gas. (One day, someone will have to explain why. Surely, it's not all taxes.)
In the U.S. there's a three-day weekend coming up, and that seems to be a grand time for people to patch up and get reacquainted with FOF, or play it for the first time. We'll make every effort to ensure that's a possibility.

But then Denmark is better known for their cyclists than for their car drivers.

First thing I think of is Legoland.
More importantly, I forgot that the randomized-bios bug is something we'd like to fix before releasing the patch. I think I'll spend a few hours this weekend trying to see if I can pin it down, by trying various combinations of options.

Then again, in Denmark you don't have as far to drive!
Thanks for the information, Gil. This will be a great addition to a great game!

Actually, it is mostly taxes. Europeans discovered that pricing is an important element to driving down dependence on foreign energy and since the 70's have kept fuel taxes pretty high to discourage overconsumption.
In Denmark, the Fuel Duty for Gasoline is just over 50 Eurocents per liter. Convert that to American Dollars per gallon and it comes to just over $2.65 in tax per gallon. And that is BEFORE they apply the standard 25% VAT. Add it all up and $6 per gallon gas is actually $2.14 for the gas and $3.86 in taxes.

They keep taxes high to gain revenue, and to keep the riff raff from being able to afford cars. Driving down dependence on foreign oil is just an excuse.

In regard to this e-mail bug, I just started an e-mail game with the most recent beta patch. Should I put it on hold until the official patch comes out or what?

To be honest, I don't know what the bug is -- just that there's something that I'm told is minor. Maybe tomorrow I'll know more.
Odds are that it's safe to continue the game, but I can't be sure.

In the UK Petrol costs are equally high and that is just down to tax approaching 80% of the cost. The tax is roughly a third of that on bio-diesel and LPG so some argument can be made that it really is down to enviromentalism and energy conservation. Bio-Diesel is effectively $4 a US Gallon cheaper, at the moment.

LeBlaque,
PBEM is fine. The glitch doesn't affect game-play at all.

Denmark is still a country???
Just kidding, taught a couple of Danes a few years back and they were top notch kids.
Just purchases and started playing FOF a few days ago. I think I'm finally starting to sort out how the victory points count in the game. Would love to see some more scenarios osmetime soon.
