Look what I found while browsing the NWS Online Combat Gaming Store under the HPS Civil War Battles section:

"In the American Civil War, Chickamauga Creek became known as the “River of Blood.” It was at Chickamauga that Confederate General Braxton Bragg launched his counteroffensive to retake the vital rail junction city of Chattanooga from Union General Rosecrans. And it was at Chickamauga that the Confederacy had one of its last chances to win the American Civil War. Among other things, it was here that General George Thomas won the nickname “Rock of Chickamauga” for this valiant stand.

HPS’s Campaign Chickamauga simulates the entire campaign in Kentucky, Tennessee and northern George in 1862-63. In this campaign, both sides took the offensive, giving both players an opportunity to attack and defend. And the campaign includes just about every type of American Civil War combat: maneuver, siege and decisive battles.

SCENARIOS

The ad is prefaced by a statement that shipping will begin on June 1st.

And HPS usually announces new games on Fridays.... so......

They just got scooped by their own distributor [:D]

That said... I'm buying!

I'm excited about this one. My big brother dragged the family around to every Civil War battlefield in the East as I was growing up, but Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain really left an impression on me. When I saw that the Battle for Missionary Ridge on the scenario list I had to reemmber the view from up there on top and imagining how this would play out.

I can see the day coming when all of these campaign games might be linked into some kind of "Super Campaign" where you might be making strategic decisions for several fronts and even fighting several major battles simultaneously (such as a hot game of Campaign Gettysburg while also fighting for Vicksburg.

Could this be the "holy grail" of Civil War gaming? The more abstract strategic games just do not have the impact of the BG and Civil War Campaign series. I'm certainly willing to embark on a strategic tactical campaign game that might take 4 years to play out. Heck, I might expire before the game ends at my age.

I've still got my fingers crossed for Matrix to get things working on BG releases like David indicated in the other thread though. There is always time to fight a good single battle, especialy with the beautiful BG graphics.

I just ordered HPS Campaign Chickamauga, and Campaign Shiloh as well.

Matrix, don't interpret our enthusiasm for the HPS Civil War games as any indication of waning interest in the the Battleground Series.  When you release the BS series of Civil War games, that will be an automatic, first-day purchase for me, too.

You wanted a simultaneous battle, try Campaign Shiloh scenario #169. Both Shiloh and New Madrid was fought almost on the same day. This scenario will let you fight both at the same time. Victory is determined by the results of both battles.
