2 gameplay questions

1. I happened to sink a few of my own ships in the surface combat segment. How do I target the enemy? The manual is a bit cryptic on the targeting. It seems to be automatic, with just the gun/torp selection and distance being the "hands on" factors. It's no fun seeing my own ships lose me a battle!

2. What happens to airplanes from a carrier that are on a strike while the parent carrier is sunk?

You don't target anything but the enemy groups. What you saw was probably the enemy carrier's aircraft hitting you.

There is a tutorial segment devoted to surface combat that shows you how to target, that plus the manual and the tooltips should set you straight.

Planes on a strike return to their own carrier. If it's sunk or unavailable for flight ops through damage they start looking for alternatives within 60 nm. If they find one they land there. If not they splash and lose VPs. If the alternative base has a squadron with the same plane type they get added as reserve planes, and so could therefore fly again, losses permitting, otherwise they just park quietly out of the way.

Tutorial is broken down so you can just view the segment you may have a question on without having to do the entire thing.
