I had a button that allowed me to launch an "artificial strike" appear in my last game. What does this do? I couldn't seem to find it in the manual.

In the sightings report that fillls the right hand side of the screen when selected, there is a button at the bottom which allows you to place an artificial sighting. After placing an artificial sighting, you can then launch a strike against it as if it were a real sighting, allowing you to strike at arbitrary locations if you have a strong suspicion an enemy taskgroup may be near.

In a Coral Sea scenario, I used the artificial sighting to launch a strike that allowed me to bag the Zuikaku. Very useful if you know your opponent is lurking and they are not spotted. Found the functionality most useful to launch a strike first thing in the morning prior to the spotters doing their work.
