Not sure about CTD

Not sure this is a valid CTD--bought game last year, installed it, and it worked fine. Purchased a new computer.
Today I installed the game, updated it to version 3.2.141. After installation, when I attempt to play the game,
what happens is that I never get to the screen with the radio, so I can select the tutorial or a new game. After the beginning movie ends, it just puts me back at the main game menu, where you select "Play COTA, etc". I get no
errors at any time.
New Computer is Windows Media Center 2005. I am running Windows Vista Premium. Graphics card is
Nvidia 7300LE, with the latest driver that came out June 1. Have 2GB RAM. Acres of hard drive space. Have
reloaded this game 3 times, reloading the original, then reloading each patch that was produced for this game since
I bought it June 26, 2006. Don't know what else to try. Computer uses Direct X 10 for Vista. Thanks for any help
provided. BobL.

arkansasbob,

mmm...I'd say with pretty much certainty that it is either failing to find your serial number or it's a bad registry setting.

Do you have a "maga.mg" file in your game directory?

Did you move/change the directory location for the game?

Thanks Dave, for the quick reply--Yes, I do have a "maga.mg" file in the game directory, and No, I did not do anything about the
directory location for the game. I just accepted the defaults as the game loaded. The game is registered at Matrix in the Members area,
and that is the serial number I used during the loading of the game and the patches. It continued loading each time I entered the
serial number. Received no errors during this process. Thanks---BobL.

OK but is the current directory location the same as the previous location you had installed it to?

ArkansasBob, what happens when you double click "Cota.exe" or "AA.exe" in your C:/Matrix Games/Conquest of the Aegean/ folder? (assuming that's where the game was installed to)

Don't worry if you don't have both files mentioned. Just try to run one or the other. Hope this helps.

The folder is C://MatrixGames/Conquest of the Aegean. Something I've noticed: When I run the game and get to the part where it throws me back to the main menu, down in the tray at the bottom of the screen is an item(icon?). When you move the mouse over this thing, you can hear the radio
squawking, "Can you read me?". In order to remove that thing, I have to pull up the task manager and end it. No amount of double clicking, right clicking, etc affects this item. My screen is just showing the desktop. The other person asked me to click on the COTA.EXE inside the folder. I did
that, and it just did the same thing--runs the movies, then goes back to the folder, with the taskbar showing that item that's supposed to be the
radio. When you ask if it's the same location, it's loaded on a new computer--whatever the default location is, that's where the stuff went. Also note
that I don't have a disk--the program was purchased and downloaded from Matrix. Didn't get a disk. Thanks for the help. BobL.

I wonder if it may be a Windows Vista Compatability issue? I might suggest downloading and running their Vista compatability update:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932246/

CotA is not on the list, but it may help. Others seem to be running CotA fine on Vista so I can't promise anything[:(]

Ok Guys, problem is fixed! After my previous post I completely removed any trace of the damn game. Then reinstalled. Same problem, UNTIL I stopped
using the "match current resolution" button when starting the game. The game offers 3 display resolutions in addition to the "match current
resolution". I can play the game in any of the 3 selections with no problems. But if I select the "match current resolution", I get all the problems
I have been explaining (or trying to explain). That icon is still in the tray, but all I have to do is click on it and it brings me directly to the
radio screen. Many thanks to those who tried to help. Sorry if I wasn't too clear on what the actual problem was. Later--BobL.

Looks like I spoke too soon--although I can now run the game, I have no sound!! Am running the tutorial #1, an although I can see the
bombard action going on, there is no sound. The sound option on the sidebar is all the way up, and my Windows volume slider in the bottom
tray is three fourths of the way up. Can anybody help with this?? Thanks, BobL.
