Vista problems

At random times, usually after resolving combat, all units become un-selectable. I wouldn’t call this a lock up, since the mouse cursor can still be moved and the issue can be resolved by selection undo. Since this never happened in XP I am assuming its a Vista issue.

Can any one confirm????

i can live with this issue, however, when it occurs after a battle, it skips the after action report. And, by Murphy's law, it always seems to be the one i wanted to study .

Hi,

None of the testers have Vista. I believe that Ralph only recently acquired it. Can you please post your systems specs, including Vista version, along with a dxdiag report? Thanks.

I'd need more info to be sure, but that sounds like a problem I encounter frequently, and I still use XP. In my case, the report is there, but it's invisible. You have to search around for where the buttons should be (looking in the info panel), then switch to one of the other parts of the report - then it's ok.

It also happens when moving units multiple hexes - the screen will freeze until the move is completed, when it resumes all normal function.

Finally, it also happens during the inter-turn calculations. The display of the calculations freezes, but continues calculating. When finished, the "Side one's Turn" message panel is there but invisible. If you click in the right place, the game-turn starts working. Otherwise, you have to resort to using one of the pull-down features.

Never encountered that problem under XP. Maybe it's not XP related but hardware related.

Probably a display driver issue.

How do the people having problems initiate the end of turn? Is it the first combat, a later combat? I've seen some dialogs 'disappear' while still there, although not the combat results box. It may be a program bug, and if it is, I'd like to track it down.

Thanks,
Ralph

Alright. attached is txt report from dxdiag.. it should contain every thing you need(and a lot more). The bug usually happens in a late combat round.

Vista was a shot in the dark. But then again, the prob only started to occur when I switched to vista, however, the prob sounds similar to others described....ill leave it to you[:D]

how do you close the combat screens? Clicking on the OK button?

Thanks,
Ralph

after the combat, i dont get a combat screen(the annoying part of the whole thing). Instead i see the map and everything on the map is un selectable. I usually just go to the play menu and click undo. After, i get about a quarter of the combat screen to appear(??) although selecting a unit usually makes that go away.

I have been running TOAW III with Vista Home Premium for 3 months now. Occasionally when there is a dialog box (e.g. combat results, news, etc) that requires input from the user it will not show up properly, sometimes does not show up at all causing the units behind the dialog box to seem un-selectable.
There are two easy ways to resolve this.
1) move your cursor around the screen where the buttons of the dialog box are supposed to be. If you hover over a button you will be able to see the message that goes with a particular button. Find the ok button and click it. The dialog box will be removed making the units selectable.
2) Adjust the size of the TOAW window and then maximize it again. That will cause the dialog box to be removed.

I also have encountered a different problem. in PBEM sometimes I can not see the replay. It is not a big deal since I am usually too lazy to watch the replay anyway.

You can also hit the <esc> key to close the dialog. If someone can reproduce it, I'll fix it, but without that, it's going to be tough to fix, I'm afraid.

To be honest I am not 100% convinced it is a solely Vista problem. I simply see it now with a new system that has a dual monitor so it may have more to do with that than Vista or XP. In any case, in my opinion this is not worth worrying about. It is a minor annoyance nothing more and it is easily circumvented.
There are more important things to be spending your time on (hint hint naval upgrades[:)].) TOAW III works with Vista very well overall.

It's definitely not associated with Vista since the above is exactly what I described for XP.

It occurs randomly, so I don't know how it can be reproduced, but I'll see what I can do. Perhaps I can find a situation that will almost always generate it.

The problem you are having is not associated with VISTA. I have been using VISTA for over a year and have not had any issues with Matrix games, including TOAW. I agree with LOK_32MK about using dual monitors, sometimes I can't see my cursor so I just move my mouse around rapidly and it reappears.

I have this same problem occasionally. Happens when combat is going and I minimise the screen and the bring it back up, or sometimes when I switch from the game to for example internet browser...usually when the game is calculating something.

Now that you mention it, I think you are correct.
