Night bombing?

Soon after WITP was released there were many calls that night bombing was too accurate and it was toned down greatly in an early patch
Problem is, as the war progressed there were a few units that had intensive night bombing and interception training.
The Japanese had several squadrons of land based bombers which were employed for nothing but night missions, (alerting the Allies to the need for plane mounted radar interceptors.
Butch O'Hare was killed by friendly fire from the radar bearing Avenger he and another Hellcat pilot were working with on night interception missions.
Early in 1944 American carriers were deploying 4 "night mission" interceptors on some ships, but some admirals felt one flattop should be filled with nothing but "night mission" planes, to serve the fleet.
Others felt at least a night mission interceptor squadron was feasible.
Such was the threat of the Japanese night bombers amongst the Allies, but in game, this threat is not felt, certainly not enough to warrant the historical angst felt by the Allies.
Any way to boost certain squadrons abilites at night??
(Of course, I am a long time proponent of something being done to help the "Black Cat" units as well)..

the airborne radar's would have to be activated in the code. That way the DL could be raised enough for the interceptor to get in more rounds.

Give em radar. Maybe also nav radar - if it works (unknown). Also give em greater numbers of smaller bombs.

I've never airborne radar sets doing anything to particularly help night squadrons. They don't seem to do any better than non-radar planes do.
The idea about more and smaller bombs is a good one though. Never thought of that.

An intrinsic modifier for night designated units would go a long way in improving their performance.
Night CAP is worthless at this point.
As it stands, bombers can still fly unhindered at night.
Results are still poor, as it should be against tactical targets.
Only area targets should be easy to find and attack.

thats because they are not enabled in the code. Holdover from BTR.

There are rumors the radar is not enabled in the code - and testing does not refute the theory. But I put the radar in carefully - it WILL be implemented bye and bye I am sure. We keep getting things better and better - and the list of things implemented or corrected is very long now. Put radar on your bombers (when they have it later in the war) and one day it will pay off. If you add a patch you can upgrade during a game even.

Another way to improve night bombing is to use cluster bombs.
RHS has a different way of coding bombs - so you are going to get more effect on soft targets if you drop more bombs or clusters - per large quantity of weight delivered.

I noted that with my little Ida's actually doing some damage on Ground Attack missions in RHS.

The Ida may be different.
Units with (SP) suffex - (Special) - are delivering 25kg Uji biological bombs! - An RHS innovation. They are not nice to soft targets.

Nasty!
I don't think they were sp units - As I recall, these Idas had 4 x 100 lb ICBs.

OK - some units have 3 of the 100 pound ICB clusters. These represent a larger number of 12.5 kg or 15 kg bombs not in the data set. An Ida carried up to ten of either. A 15 kg bomb weighs 33 pounds. So a 100 pound ICB cluster = 3 15 kg bombs (that is, 99 pounds).
Yet another Ida load is the ASW armed Korean Command Unit and the Central Command Unit - each plane carries two 60 kg DC.
The "special" loadout is 6 Uji bombs. These weapons were not really approved of by the JAAF - and were made in a special factory in Mukden by Col (later Gen) Ichii's own BW unit. They were used by small planes whenever he could convince some commander to do so (and he had his own tiny air unit to test bombs and develop concepts) - and never won favor of the JAAF leadership as a weapon of war. So they never got used by the true bombers. Ida is the only thing similar to the "bombers" used. This practice abruptly ended when the wind shifted in an attack in China, and 60,000 Japanese troops died. "This weapon is worse than the enemy" said the IJA commander in China.

Just thinkin' "outside the box"..
I wonder if there is any way to fool special-trained night units (within the program) into thinking it is daytime (within the game)??
If there were, it might resolve the aerial radar capability to intercept and the night trained bomber units on their accuracy??

I think radar works
a) to find and attack ships or subs (on bombers)
b) to find or attack planes at night (on night fighters)
