ASW?

Been playing Coral Sea scen as US. At the very end got message that my glorious CV TG was attacked by sub and Saratoga is no more afloat [8|]. Just day before have lost CA to the sub as well. What are escorts been doing?

Could be I'm spoiled by WITP, but lack of ASW measures in CAW makes subs too effective, imho.

What speed was your TG moving at?

Don't remember exactly, for sure not 0 [:)]

Does your question mean that it is better not to slow down?

Well, we could have included a 100% effective ASW option, but then we would have got complaints that subs were completely useless! The Saratoga was torpedoed and the Wasp sunk by Japanese submarines during the fighting round Guadalcanal, so there's ample precedent for subs sinking fleet carriers.

All you can do is keep your speed at 20 knots or higher, which greatly reduces, (but never eliminates), the chance of being torpedoed.

Thanks for the answers. I'm just started to play CAW, i.e. many questions. [:)]

The fact that ships were lost to subs is absolutely ok. The way it happened both times was the concern. Haven't seen the actual ASW neither before and after the attack. Subs caused 100% damage immediatly to both capital ships - is it always the case? Also, is it possible to spot enemy subs? Is it possible to attack them?

Speaking of speed. Seems that TG have too much fuel. Seems, it is possible to run full speed all the time during Coral Sea. I haven't noticed them stop to refuel escorts. Also is there any penalties to running full speed except fuel consumption?
