Cannot apply the last patch

A PBEM partner of mine, who I have been playing against up until the release of the latest patch states he cannot apply this patch because it does not recognize his serial number. As it is hard to find good, dependable opponents, does anyone have a clue on what could be the problem? Please advise if you have any suggestions. Thank you.

The only problem, that I could forsee, would be that his serial code has been blocked by Matrix. There were a few serials that were blocked due to them being leaked out for anyone to use. Maybe he is not as dependable as you thought?[;)]
(Of course, it may all just be a mistake. The Brass will have to give a more difnitve answer. [:D])

Have him drop an email off to
support@matrixgames.com with details of his purchase, and the nature of his problem. If he didn't purchase the game, then have him drop off...the face of the Earth.
Damn! I love that smiley!

Well, people can seem like decent folks here in cyber-space and on the battlefields of TOAW, but one never knows! Would he have not had issues with the other patches if there was something shady about the manner in which he obtained TOAW? I have been playing with him for close to a year and when that last patch was released, we both decided to continue our games (each game was well into the 150 turn mark) and wait to apply the latest patch. I know for a fact that we applied the previous patches with no problem, so this has me curious. Does any of this make sense?

Assuming he's a baddie: his serial may have been added to the 'leaked' data-base after he applied the other patches and before he tried to apply the latest patch.

Not to cast any accusations at your friend, since I do prefer to believe in innocent until proven guilty, however...
It wasn't until this last patch that TOAW III incorporated the serial number check against the known blacklist. This is something fairly recent with Matrix Games and since about the beginning of the year, all new patches for Matrix Games' games have to include the serial number check in the installation. If the installed serial number corresponds with one that is in the blacklist, then the patch is not installed, and pirates are unable to play against those who have up to date patches.
If your friend does have a legitimate copy, and can prove it, then all he should have to do is to contact
support@matrixgames.com and they will be able to help him. If he's on a blacklist though, it might prove to be a bit embarrassing...

Thank you my good men! I guess if you do not get an e mail regarding this issue and he does not begin a new game with me, we will find out whether or not this was case. I appreciate your insight as this never crossed my mind. If this is indeed the case it seems like a shame as this gentleman was prompt with getting turns back to me, brilliant in all things wargame related and a very decent appearing fellow. Then again, that may explain why I am the one inquiring about this and not him!!! Again, thanks for the information.
