Thanks for the game, was one of the best mp games I've played in a long time.

E.Solomons played to a draw ! After destroying almost all of Henderson's opening attack wave, both my main strike force CV's get hit in the opening minutes and I'd still failed to spot the American CV's. Lucky for me it was minor damage which Hellcat thought was more severe [:-] I proceded to back off and attempt stay out of range at that point...crossing my fingers the invasion would succede.

I did manage to land/bombard both Gili Gili, and Henderson field but failed to sink a single US ship [:@] Only damaging a few ( one bar of damage on the Yorktown )

Even so, the cat and mouse game that ensued was classic. With Hellcat moving SW and desperatly trying to sink the invasion fleet we danced the 'smokey flattop dance' ... Mostly ineffective LB bombers failed to do more than damgage the transports ( although they were sunk on the way home. ) And the few strikes I was able to sneak in with my damaged strike force as we fled the scene of the crime kept Hellcat on his toes !

Fun stuff indeed.

and now the bad news...

looks like i popped a few CAW MP cherries tonight [;)] after my game with Hellcat I started up a game with Sean but we lost connection 3 times in just over an hour of play :( which kinda took the wind out of the sails [:(]

hoping its more conection related, but I have the auto saves if they would be useful to verify this ?

I had a fantastic game of cat and mouse vs CharlieChap, no disconnects, this time over Hamachi.

One thing to have on mind we're all on different sides of the planet. I've never played any head to head RTS (ie, not turn based) game with someone from Canada before (AVisme is from Canada I believe)

We need a MP AAR section [;)]

Got in most of a game with AVisme over IP tonight, marred slightly by 2 crashes.

We played Wake (historical).  I was the US, and combined two carrier groups to the south of Wake with a carrier group and my transports to the northeast of Wake, and transferred all my Devastators to Wake early on so they could at least be in range of the transports when they showed up (and not bog the carriers down).  Long story short, after the Devastators punched a bunch of holes in AV's cruisers (but NOT his transports - my pilots were much more attracted to the less important and more armored CAs), I found his carriers west of Wake.  Launched substantially all planes, minus about 35 fighters guarding the three carriers on CAP.

But of course, half the devastators decided they'd rather have another go at the cruisers offshore, while half made their way late to the carriers, where they were completely shot up by AV's 50% CAP with no hits.  Sounds historically accurate!  As for the SBDs and their fighter escorts vectoring in from the northeast and southeast for a combined strike -- a ton of misses, and only 4 measly hits, which left both of AV's carriers active.  They quickly responded, sinking all three carriers with one (split) strike.  Boom.  Goodbye!

The Japanese hit % was phenomenal - everything was hitting (the Japanese hit % during a thunderstorm was better than the US dive bombers' hit % in clear skies), and the 35 CAP fighters could have been off in Pearl Harbor for all they were worth.  I think they shot down 5 planes or so.  Also, the US carrier damage control was atrocious - it appeared that two Val dive-bombs were enough to sink the Enterprise.

So that was that - decisive victory for AV, or it would have been, without a late crash.

I see why the US never tried to intervene in real life... what a pathetic carrier fleet! (or maybe it was the admirals)   :)

Don't be too harsh in your judgement of the US performance at Wake, hypothetical though it is. The Japanese have had years combat flying in China, while the US are still shaking off their pre-war torpor. They US will be burdened by faulty pre-war doctrine and notions of Japanese racial inferiority, both of which will be discarded through hard won experience.

MP is whole different ball game than playing the AI, no matter how good the AI in this game is (well I guess we expected it).

What's the deal? I downloaded Hamachi and typed in the password a week ago. To date, I haven't seen a single person in the lobby. Did I do something wrong?
