Specific Supply Question

Playing Malta Cross as the Germans. Initially, I had started a new game as the Commonwealth just to get a feel for what I was facing. I noticed that the Commonwealth had only one SEP, which is located at Valetta. When I clicked on the Eastern supply base (located around Vittorioso/Birgul (sp) it traced its green line to the Division supply base located just south of the SEP. My question is this - I have captured Marsa and have begun taking the ground to the northwest and northeast of that town. Has that has cut off supply to the eastern supply base (that appears to be the only land link as there's nothing but water separarting the eastern and div supply bases)? I occupy more or less a continuous line of terrain from Zurriek all the way up north to Marsa in the eastern part of Malta and down through Curmi and Sijuwi and finally the mountain southwest in the western part of Malta.

BK6583,

Thanks for your question.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Can you please supply a screen shot, showing the bases and SEPs and then I'll be in a better situation to answer you. Thanks.

Tried searching on "screen shot" but couldn't find anything - I know I read it somewhere but the fact is I've never done a screen shot before. I'm at work so I can't pull down the file but how do I attach a screen shot?

Use Window's PRTSCRN key to take a screenshot and then paste it from the clipboard into some graphics program. If you have nothing else, you can use Window's Paint and save it.

At the bottom left of the post box, check "click here to upload" and check "embed picture in post".

A window will pop-up in your browser for you to upload the JPG to the Matrix servers.

That's it.

Well I'm a real newbie when it comes to creating the kinds of screen shots I've seen on this forum. I followed MarkShot's instructions but the smallest I can get the screen save file in "Paint" is an aggravating 201kb (GIF), which I can't upload. What can I do to shrink the file size just a tad more to get it to "fit" in my post?

Hi,

Saving it as JPG instead of GIF should reduce it to an appropriate size. Did you try ?
Another possibility is to crop it, but with Paint, it is a pain.
Or just send the damn file to Dave. [;)]

Cheers,

JeF.

Paint should allow to save it as JPG/JPEG. They are much smaller.

BK6583, I have a saved game that I think represents your situation fairly close. The SEP and Base in the Valetta Peninsula is cut off from the rest of the Bases and most of the troops south, west, and east of Valetta.

The screenshot shows supply cut off to almost everything outside of the Peninsula, except (oddly) 2 bases (circled in green). These will likely turn red by the next supply deternination at 18:00, and any supply getting to them from the base in Valetta is probably getting shot up pretty bad.

Note however that even though a base may be completely cut off from a SEP, it can still deliver supplies from it's own stocks until these are exhausted.

hope this helps.

BK6583,

Try this:
  • paste your picture into MS Paint
  • select Save As from the File menu
  • choose JPEG from the Save as Type drop down list at the bottom of the Save As dialog
  • If the resulting file is still too big, then in MS Paint:
    • crop the image and resave
    • resize the image and resave.
  • To crop in MS Paint ( this is not intuitive )
    • Select the Marquee tool
    • select the area you want
    • Cut it
    • Select All
    • Delete
    • Paste the cut image
    • Position it to the top left
    • select Attributes from the Image menu
    • enter the height and width
    • enter OK
  • To resize in MS Paint ( much easier )
    • select Stretch/Skew from the Image menu
    • set the horizontal and width percentages to 50% for instance
    • hit OK
MS Paint is a very basic paint program. Something like PaintShopPro is much better at this sort of thing.

Dave,

As always let me pass on mega kudos for the support you guys on these forums provide. I guess I should have asked my original question differently. If I'm playing the Germans and I click on "Surrender" and then "Review Final Situation" I find it frustrating that I can't get very deeply into the disposition of the Commenwealth forces, i.e, how much supply a given Commenwealth unit has left or like the screen above, what's the supply status of the respective Commonwealth bases. Is it possible to manipulate a save game file (I'm playing against the AI - not H-H, so there shouldn't be password or encryption problems) to take a closer look at the "other" side? At any rate, I believe Simovitch's screen shot above has mor or less answered my question. But just to say I at least tried you follow-on advice, please see the attached screen shot which was based upon my original question above.

During the AAR you should be able to use the Unit Info Box to display the supply state and supply levels of all units ( friendly and enemy ). You should be able to individually click on an enemy unit and inspect its ammo item by item in the E&S tab on the sidebar.

You're right on the first part. But the "E&S" tab for the Commonwealth when I review my games only shows actual equipment on hand - not ammo basics on hand.
