Coordinated Attack/defense

I've lost a lot of sleep and have been playing this for many hours already. One thing I realized was missing(whne compared to Panzer General) was the necessity of coordinating attacks. Or if you "attacks in depth".
For instance you don't have to plan ahead by loading and unloading artillary at just the right time and place to soften the target. The defender can't place anti-aircraft guns at strategic locations to make you think twice about attacking with aircraft.
With PG you had to be very methodical and knock use all of your many different unit types in a coordinated and very well planned effort.
I can't even get more than one choice for armor units.(Germany)
And it seems very restrictive when it comes to naval units. They can't pass from one sea to another.
But I will continue to play because the game is addictive, just a little dumbed-down.

Baltic and north sea passage is blocked to the germans by Copenagen but they did have the Kiel canal

You are right, they can't because the port symbol blocks the passage.

I can understand a blockade with actual ships but not the port!
the port would be better moved to the north east 1 hex?

wonder what the reason is for this design decision?

Actually they can get out.

Capturing the Suez Canal allowed passage of Italian ship around Africa. It takes about 4-5 turns as I recall, but you then can get units into the Atlantic. If you have France, you can stop at ports there too to refit.
