Entire Interface Delayed?!

I installed, deleted, reinstalled and still have the same problem. It starts with loading a scenario. It gets done loading and it clicks, music changes, and the "Loading" screen stays there for several minutes still!

When I am in the game, clicking options have a delay. Looking through Task Forces, each selection has a delay before the next dialog box.

I have WitP, WPO, and UV installed and UV is the only game that does this. I have the January-07 comp patch installed (2.5?). It did this before the patch and after so the patch did not cause this.

Dell XPS-600, 3.6 gig CPU, dual NVIDIA 6800 cards in SLI, 2 gig RAM, 300 gig hard drive, 20" LCD Dell monitor. A lot of good this system is for this game. [&:] [:@]

How long is the delay when clicking options?  I know some people complain about loading time for the game, but with your rig it should be OK.

Every item takes about four seconds minimum. It's crummy. [:'(]

I just uninstalled and reinstalled to a different directory name, didn't fix it. My partition is also defragged so that's not a factor.

When I click the arrows to cycle through the planes or ships, several seconds delay. Everything.

I really want to play this but I don't know what it could be?! I don't want to go back to WitP until I get some time under my belt with UV. These games are hard! [:D] [:@] [X(]

If you don't mind not having the sounds (I have mine off by choice) then rename your SOUND folder to NOSOUND and see if it speeds up...

I suppose I could try that to see if it is a sound issue, but I hate to do without that good music. I could also turn all the sound options to "0".

Turning the sound to zero doesn't do anything. The program still plays the sound file...

Hi Larry,

It is strange. I have the same problem as you with that ¨clicking¨sound delay but reversed. UV plays very smooth but WitP plays slow with the sounds on. Why? I don't know. My machine should play it fine.

I can tell you something I did with WitP though that you can try with UV. Find that ¨clicking¨ sound file, the one when you click the arrow like on a battle report and delete it.

I deleted that ¨clicking¨ sound file and it did speed up WitP enough that I leave the sounds on now...except that one.

Try that.

Change your display settings to 16 bits.
Turn off all anti virus and pop up blocker software.
Turn off your internet connection.
Check whatever background proprams you have and turn off the ones you don't need.

Also set your map scroll setting to 0.
Turn hexes off on the map settings.
Use F6 to display hexlines if you need to count ranges.

This is more than likely a CPU usage problem.
Both UV and WITP are CPU hogs.
WITP more so.[;)]

Larry,

Run dxdiag and check to see is you have sound hardware acceleration (under the sound tab) on. If so turn it off and see if that helps.

Wow! Lots of advice! I will try each one now and let you all know what worked or vice versa. However, I already run without background virus etc.. My CPU is a 3.6 gig hyperthread so I can't imagine it would be from that being too slow. I run my PC's real tight, always defragged, no background anything other than what's is barely necessary.

I run msconfig all the time to make sure I have no background junk running. Most software that installs wants to have a background program running. Especially larger companies like Logitech, they want to run an update manager constantly. Logitech almost never updates mouse drivers. Silly! Yesterday I found an update manager running that manages other programs to check if an upgrade is ready! I could not believe it and I don't know what program installed that. I went into the registry and deleted the blasted junk.

Off to experiment! [:D]

WitP runs fast and so does WPO. No delays at all. Strange issues we have. [X(]

Well I renamed the sound folder and everything is the same. However, something worthy of mention is that after I have loaded a scenario and gone through the waiting game the first time (several minutes after the red bar is fully red, and the hard drive LED is no longer blinking), I can quit to the main menu and load a different scenario and it loads in a few seconds. Loading scenarios or saved games flies after that. The clicking inside the game after that is still too long though so that doesn't change, but after playing for a while the delays are about 50% better. It looks like a memory issue. [&:]

I'm certainly open to more ideas. [&:]

Only one more thing I can think of.

When was the last time you did a virus scan?

Note that having hexes on or off does not matter - there are two separate sets of map panels. Having hexside details on will slow things down a bunch.

Yep, the non hex map will have an improved scrolling speed.

When I read your post I did a complete scan. All OK. It had been a week I believe. Good idea though.

I ran dxdiag and like always it comes up with "d3d9d.dll is a debug version." I have updated several times to the retail version (I program and use the DX9 SDK for debugging) and it still shows this file as a debug version. Anyone else see this too? [&:]

I never use the hex map or the details. Not that either, dang it. I wish it was.

It will not. You have two files that are the map, one with hexes and one without. Using the map with hexes does NOT affect scrolling speed at all. Do not put out false information.

It certainly will help low end computer systems, sorry.
