HOW IT IS?

I'm searching a Naval Game that let you play the war from a tactical way, so you can control your ships during the battle and not only let them fight by his own. Is this game the game I'm searching?? Or is another Strategy Game??

Hi Startos,

I would recommend a different game.

The focus of Carriers at War (CAW) is operational. You make decisions affecting the destination of your TF's and the speed & course (via waypoints) they take to get there. You also ready aircraft and select targets to launch strikes at.

Past that, combat is automatic, handled by the computer. Strikes are resolved without direct input from you, and surface combats (if/when they occur) are abstracted; you basically choose where to fire at and whether to close range, open it, or flee.

CAW is a lot of fun, but it's at a higher-level than the tactical. You might want to check out some of John Tiller's designs (like "Jutland") at HPS, Norm Koger's "Distant Guns" (Tsushima 1905) at Storm Eagle Studios, or some of the games at Naval Warfare Simulations NWS. I've ordered from all and can recommend them.

My personal favorite for naval combat and fine control is subs. There is nothing like it: the stealthy hunt, the sudden brutal attack, the role reversal and becoming the prey after you launch, ... Additionally, in many ground combat games, FOW is almost an after thought in the design. For subs, FOW is not something that slowly resolves the longer you play. FOW is a permanent and chronic condition, you never know who exactly is lurking for you 600' above.

In this game ships mostly fight "on their own" - in fact that's one of the best descriptions of CAW I've seen [8D]

Take a look at Matrix`s " Uncommon Valor " which is hopefully free of major bugs after all this time. It`s more complex then the HPS stuff, and IMO more interesting.

While it`s operational in nature you can still fight the tactical battles out in a simple manner.
